Boswell heading to the portal

This isn’t a complicated issue. The NCAA ran a blatantly illegal system for decades. How illegal? The Supreme Court ruled against it 9–0. Do you know how bad something has to be to lose 9–0 these days?

You can’t limit player movement because athletes must be treated like any other student. A regular student can transfer as many times as they like without penalty, as long as another institution accepts them.

The only reason the loyalty you’re all clamoring for ever existed among athletes is because they had no other choice, that illegal system I mentioned above. If the transfer portal had existed in the ’80s and ’90s, the same thing would have been happening then.

Gotta think Barnes wouldn't let this happen if there weren't a real backup plan. But let's be honest, Boswell wasn't much, especially on offense

While I think CRB is going to reload with another good roster, it's a bit of a hot take to say Bos "wasn't much."

He was arguably our best on ball defender, he could handle the ball, was an EXCELLENT rebounder for his size, and while he didn't shoot in volume, he shot with the exact efficiency a coach would want.

Of all the players leaving, this one sucks the most in my eyes.

Boswell was a Solid defender and I had high hopes he would have a really good off season on the offensive end. He was a gret "culture" guy and if he ends up at NC State then he will will really help Gainey set the culture there. I wish him the best of luck and will be cheering for him to suceed.

Outstanding points. If people reflected on their own careers and how they have left employers for better opportunities, or at least that their ability as an employee to leave for better opportunities forced their employer to compete in the marketplace for their services, then perhaps they would not be so willing to restrict the freedom of others. As a fan, I understand the frustration of constantly changing rosters. As an American though, it’s a good thing. We need to do a better job competing for those we wish to keep, but end up losing, and realize that we are benefiting from cleaning up our roster by getting rid of players incapable of contributing. Before the current NIL system, we kept non performers on roster for four or five years with a redshirt.

There are some who will defend til the death this s*** show that is the nil
There are 350 schools playing Division 1 basketball and 155 playing Division 1-A football. You are going to see some dropping down like Hartford and Saint Francis of Pennsylvania to Division 3 and some just end all sports like Saint Francis of New York. Somebody in football is just going to take a look at the numbers and just say we aren’t going to put up with this anymore—Tulsa, Temple, FIU, etc. I could even see a conference dropping down—Northeast Conference, Southland, America East, etc. once the power conferences start giving them crumbs from the NCAA tournament.
