Do you suppose the results of the big money boosters' civil war resulted in Fulmer's having his hands tied by the administration due to the $$$ they are willing to spend on the new HC hire? Is it possible that the loser of the behind-the-scenes infighting told the others, "Well, if I can't have my way, I'll take my millions and go home to pout for a while!"

Currie reportedly had Leach ready to sign a MOU, but when he contacted Davenport about it, he was commanded to return to Knoxville immediately. Remember, Currie had traveled to L.A. to meet with Leach on a Kansas State booster's private jet... not on one of ours, in an attempt to save his job. The next morning he was fired. If that rumor was true, I'd think the $$$ he offered Leach was at least as much as that offered Gundy ($42 million over 6 years), if not more. That may be the reason Currie was "fired."

Since replacing Currie, Fulmer has been looking at the low-cost spread among the available coaches to take the helm at UT. I've been wondering why. I'm thinking that perhaps UT's administration and remaining big-money boosters really aren't willing to spend the $$$ needed to hire the kind of coach we really want... and the kind Fulmer would really like to hire, if that is so, Fulmer's choices are rather limited, aren't they... and if that is the case, we should not put the blame on him... but support him for the Big Orange-blooded man he is... just as he has supported UT all these years GBO ! ! !

The "booster civil war" is fake news. It's myth perpetuated in the minds of wishful-thinking fans.

I don't believe in a booster war. It seems were getting crap no matter who our AD is. It's horrible but it's reality

has nothing to do with it. for two reasons:

1, TN is the second wealthiest college football program. It can afford whoever it wants to hire.

2. Any of the other boosters not named Haslam could also put up big money. Haslam can walk, and the school might have to delay a building here or there but the football program can pay it's coaching staff.

I was told by a pretty reliable source (another not so wealthy booster) that Ergen promised to make up for anything Haslam stopped giving.

Wealth and cash flow are completely different. That misunderstanding is the main reason businesses fail.

If the Haslam's had their way we would be called the TN Browns. With the **** they have pulled over the last 10 years, we are well on our why to becoming that powerhouse NFL football team aka the Cleveland Browns. Sign me up...............................NOT!!!

I think the biggest impact from the civil war is that Phil is pretty much been given freedom to hire whoever he wants.

At the end of the day, its his job to hire the person, but he has to be careful to focus on pleasing the fans with the hire, not just the boosters.

Pretty sure fans would consider a 1-3 names as a rock solid hires where boosters may feel otherwise....

I love the Tucker Hire if made. At this point of the coaches that are available/would take UT, I have Kiffin first, Mel Tucker second.

I think Fans would not be excited about Mel Tucker, but boosters would, while fans would be excited about Kiffin, but boosters wouldn't.

Tough line to tow, but I do think Phil will please the boosters over fans.

Mel Tucker would be a fantastic hire! Guy is great defensive leader and can recruit with the best of them. Add in Tee Martin as OC and we would really pull in the talent in short order.

UT need Talent more than anything, and this years team was just average to below average and that doesn't cut it in the SEC.

Butch was a terrible game day coach no one will argue that point, but it was more than that, starting with our quarterbacks, just look at the real dual threat qb that most SEC teams are showing, our guys would not make 3rd string, seriously.

We need mega recruiters at every coaching position as well as teachers that have the experience and talent to teach these kids how to play this game.

After the renovations, the average fan is going to have a hard time affording tickets. The admin is not doing these renovations out of the goodness of their heart. I was part of the survey and about choked when they were asking what I would be willing to pay for some of the new seating. It looks like I may need to find me a corporate sugar daddy.

After reviewing Auburn and Alabama's donation rates for season tickets I know why. For my donation at Alabama I could have 35 yrd line seats. At Auburn I could have a variety of seats including 40 yd line seats... In Knoxville I am on the 5 yard line. We as a fanbase who buy season tix MUST demand more because by gawd we are definitely paying more than 2 of the three most successful programs in the SEC in the past 10 years.

$$$$ is NOT the problem at all.

We can afford to hire Pedersen, Venables or most anyone else we really go after and want.

I believe that Fulmer wants a YES man that he can control and wants to play coach again and that won't get us the right coach and a great coaching staff of great recruiters.

Fulmer was a great PR move to make us fans shut up and accept whatever 2nd level coach they force down our throats.

If we fans allow that to happen then Tennessee football is dead and gone forever.

VFL...GBO!!!

I tend to think that Fulmer is trying to find a coach he can control. He may not want to coach again, but I can see some Frank Broyles 2.0 here. He had much better options than Steele on the table earlier.
