You think us losing Washington hurts us more than kentucky losing Mitchell? Or LSU losing 3/8th of their team. Just answer that question.

From my understanding the initial win by Washington (and others in the case) was a TRO saying they are eligible to play at that time, up until the case is actually heard. The NCAA went back and appealed that decision to make them ineligible until the case is actually heard, and they were successful in doing so. So now it’s a matter of the case actually being presented and a final decision being made, which could be weeks, or months, haven’t seen any firm date on that.

This is like last year when Bediako was able to play a few games, they got a TRO saying he was eligible to play until his case was heard, he played a few games and then had his case in which he lost, so then he was back to ineligible.

Yes. Because neither of them will be in the running for a National Championship. Those 2 teams do not matter. Washington could be the difference in TN making an elite 8 or final 4.

Some of this is AI homework but appears to be pretty accurate. In any event, the first hurdle Washington would have to clear is the Tennessee State Court of Appeals. If his conjoined lawsuit fails there, it's over. If the Appeals Court ruled in his favor, he could argue the SEC would be in contempt to try and meddle with his eligibility, or the SEC may find its new rule doesn't apply to his situation. Either party could also appeal an adverse ruling from the Appeals Court to the Tennessee Supreme Court.

Low said he had spoken with someone at Tennessee that day and that there is optimism inside the program that Jalen Washington will ultimately be able to play this season. He also reported that Washington is still practicing with the Vols.

Low’s reasoning was:

  • Washington is presently ineligible because the injunction protecting him has been stayed.
  • However, Low said Washington did not formally declare for the NBA Draft or sign a professional contract; he merely participated in NBA Summer League games and received ordinary per-diem benefits.
  • Tennessee apparently believes Washington’s circumstances are materially different from the former professional players LSU recently added.
  • Low said Washington’s attorneys will have another opportunity to argue the matter—he characterized it as roughly 30 days away—and believes Washington has a “decent chance” of regaining eligibility."

It seems silly to create a new set of rules barring players from the professional ranks playing college sports….and then reverse your position in like 3 days. Sankey has lost has fastball. The only thing I can think of that would be logical to reverse that quickly is maybe Sankey is trying to bait some of these schools to play these dudes and then put the hammer on them to discourage future teams from doing this.

The SEC’s/Sankey’s draconian penalties for keeping a barred player on the roster are way over the top in my opinion. That in itself probably warrants some litigation. Everyone agrees that some sanity is needed in this eligibility stuff, but these iron fisted types of threats aren’t helping.

As of now, I have accepted that Washington will not play, this year. I hope I'm wrong, because I thought he was the missing piece for that Final 4. Next man up, I still think this is a Final 4 team. I swear I can taste it, the defense will come and the offense will be beautiful.

Well, all the ADs in the SEC also voted for it (or abstained in the case of LSU).

And they'll comply for now, and pretty much dare LSU to add the players. As soon as that order gets overturned (and it will either by another injuction or by a bill in congress), they will drop the hammer on them as they should.
