Born and raised in LaFollette, TN. My family ancestry traces back to the West Virginia side of the Tug Fork River Valley.

Ok, so I was partly right.

Im somewhat familiar with that area. Surveyed Lone Mnt. State Park, and some land in Wartburg, and Rugby for the state.

On the radio Clay talked about, due to the stress and pressures of the season, if he was ever asked to leave the locker room. It only happened once -- during the Alabama game. Pretty much everything else that went on during the season, Clay witnessed first hand.

I have only read the first chapter, but Clay is a talented writer and has a way of making you feel like you were right there. He also looks at the whole picture of the experience and not just the main theme. He followed several players around during the season, including Arian, and sat with us several times in our visits with him.

I regret that the season was so horrible because I think it didn't really allow a real view into the fun side of playing ball for Tennessee from the players' views. But hopefully it will give you a glimpse of some of what goes on, which in many cases, is nothing like fans think. Clay is a UT fan, which means he will always be upbeat and positive about UT. That's a good thing. I have no idea how the rest of the book reads but look forward to owning a copy. I think as fans get past the emotional feelings that was the last few seasons, you'll find that a book like this will be a must have as an important part of Tennessee history.

We need to stop writers following the team around in hopes of following a championship season. It happened in 05 too. Darren Epps followed the team around hoping for a NC game appearance. Instead he got the 05 debacle and us not getting to a bowl and losing to Vandy. That book was called Orange Crushed. Now Clay does the exact same thing. WOW

I truly enjoyed Dixieland Delights and the chapter on the florida game actually brought back all of the pain of that contest. I look very forward to his new book although I am sure it will also be painful in parts.

Oh yeah he also captured my JOY of the Cal game...great read.

Foster Mom...good to hear from you again.

Someone do us a favor and keep us posted on publication.

Thanks...and GO VOLS

He made a comment in his blog several months back that said after the final game, Fulmer looked at him as said something to the effect of "well son, you sure picked a hell of a time to write a book."

I have no particular animus towards him. The southern fetish for nostalgia has just always been something that gives me a good laugh.

There is a certain nostalgia to clay's first book, but only through his grandfather. He seems as if he really likes the mercenary coaching. It's definitely more fun than the good old boys. Can't wait for the new book.

Yes, Class of '89.

I remember your varsity basketball squad my frosh year in 86-87. I was playing jv at the time and played you guys. I was really impressed with your squad and followed closely the the box scores of one your guards. He lit up the scoreboard.

Correct me if im wrong, but there was a bit a controversy that season with Campbell County? Were they ineligible for postseason? I am sure it will all come back once you rehash that team.

Correct. Campbell County lost one regular season game(at Morritown West). We were ruled ineligible because Joe Carroll, who later played one season as a walkon at UT, was found to have participated in the second semester without having finished his coursework in Kentucky before transferring. Kermit Marlow is the guard you are probably thinking about.
