Boise St to AAC?

Boise should try to park their non-football sports in the WCC like BYU did. There is decent basketball in the WCC with Gonzaga, St Mary's and BYU.

I think the WCC is all private schools. But maybe the Big West?

Didn’t they already try this w/ the Big East and it fell through? The travel expenses seem outrageous, especially given the fact that small athletic departments have shutting sports down left and right. Even large AD’s have.

The AAC has carved out a nice and strong non power 5 football conference, but I’ve always questioned how it and C-USA can operate with the traveling budgets they have.

Yeah, it's really strange. Boise's MWC media contract pays them ~$4mm/year, while the AAC's contract gives members somewhere in the ballpark of $7mm/year. I don't think that Boise would be immediately eligible for all of that increase, nor am I convinced that adding a small media market from a sparsely-populated state would be a big boon to the AAC's eventual (they just signed a new contract last year) media renegotiations, and there's no way that the costs associated with ferrying all of your teams 2,500 miles to Philadelphia and Orlando would be worth it.

The link obviously references only Boise State football, but that means an even smaller payout (AAC football + WAC sports has to be less than $4mm/year) and I'm not sure what the real upside is in joining the AAC when A) you're consistently good, though not exceptional, in the MWC so you're not necessarily going to steamroll the AAC and B) the overall strength of the AAC with Boise still won't be enough to become a true power conference and have an actual shot at the playoff.

Boise may be to the point now that even though huge travel cost may be a burden. They want to climb the ladder of relevant conferences in hopes of one day getting into a Power 5. Has to suck being poached of your coach.

They need to move up. It’s beyond time. Should have done it a decade ago. As soon as they pummeled UGA on national TV, their star wasn’t going to rise any higher being in the MWC.
Oh they wanted in the PAC12 when all that realignment was going on. But something about their academic standards didn't match the Pacs so they weren't really given an option. Athletics wise it would have been awesome and a great fit and travel reasonable.
