The FBI investigation into college basketball that was revealed on Tuesday night led to the firing of Louisville coach Rick Pitino and athletic director Tom Jurich only a matter of hours later on Wednesday morning.

Now, some are wondering whether the calamity will push football coach Bobby Petrino out the door.

“Will Petrino bail? In my mind, he will,” Finebaum said. “I’ve spoken to people today who believe that he will get out as soon as he can. Believe it or not, in spite of his past, he will find some places to go, perhaps not all that far away.”

Finebaum’s insinuation that Petrino could make a return to the SEC has been talked about for some time. It’s now picked up steam with the Cardinals’ situation and a head coaching vacancy, or two, possibly opening up in the SEC in the near future.

It’s also worth noting that Petrino’s buyout, once at $8.5 million, has been cut in half to $4.25 million due to Jurich’s firing.

Petrino is in his second stint as head coach at Louisville, leading the team from 2003-06 before coaching Arkansas from 2008-11. He compiled a 34-17 mark with the Razorbacks, who increased their win total each year under his guidance: 2008 (5 wins), 2009 (8 wins), 2010 (10 wins) and 2011 (11 wins).

Since then, Petrino’s return to Louisville has produced 8 or 9 wins in each of his three previous seasons as well as the 2016 Heisman Trophy winner, QB Lamar Jackson.

For those wanting Petrino He might be on the market soon, I don't think he would leave in the middle of the Season though.

I still support Jones fully.

That said, if Jones goes - I just dont think the university can take a chance on a guy like this after going through so much heartache the last 10 years on the coaching front. Risk is too great for a new AD IMO.

I would take him in a heartbeat. He did wonders at Arkansas in such a short time and look what happened to their program once he left. He’s done well at Louisville too. Time has passed since his motorcycle incident and I believe in 2nd chances. He’d be 100 x better than Butch. Make it happen UT! Unless we can find someone who is proven BETTER. I’m tired of our once great program being such a damn joke for the past 10 years. If UGA destroys us at home, then let’s just make Fulmer the interim HC for the remainder of the year. You’re fooling yourself if you believe butch is a better gameday coach than him.

They won't touch this guy because of the women's watch groups and lawyers. You have nothing to worry about.

Come on, it's not like Bobby would be on tv one morning saying he's totally dedicated to coaching a team, then leave that night to coach another! Oh wait,......😜

My pipe dream hire is still Gary Patterson. I've wanted him when Fulmer was let go and I want him now.

He's a winner, but if we want baggage, I'm a huge fan of Art Briles.

So is every ambulance-chasin lawyer in Tennessee. UT would never get out of the Title IX lawsuits if they hired that guy. He's not radioactive, he's nuclear waste.
