Bob Shoop and his "Magic Show" defense

florida freshman played well on "D" vs. lsu.

Let's not bull**** each other, Florida has better and deeper talent on defense than Tennessee does. Tennessee has probably better talent on offense but it's real close and gap is closing. Not so much on defense. Muschamp left beaver teeth with a very good defense. No comparison in the talent and depth between the two DLs. Vols have 1 dude on DL who would be in top 8 at UF. That is just the facts.

Yeah i understand the injuries but good grief. It looks like none of our players have been developed. Its year 4 and we have no linebackers that can play. None of our corners know how to turn and look for a ball. We cant tackle and look lost. Its sunseri level bad.

We were in too many close games early and our starters had to play too many reps. Therefore no one else got any real game experience. Now they are facing teams that have a lot of experience.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't we have 7 original starters on defense playing (or at least in the 2 deep rotation) in the UK game until TK went down? We were without JRM and 3 DT's. I get team chemistry and we are playing DE's at DT, but I struggle to comprehend how we can look that bad with 7 starters against UK. Yesterday was an extension of that but throw in TK on the sideline too. Let's not forget that Jumper was 2nd string and has now played the majority of the year. Clearly he's not JRM, but we can't say he hasn't had the reps, so that leaves us with 3 to 4 players out on D.

Being down 3 to 4 is significant, but is that the only explanation for what we've seen the last 2 weeks? I seriously struggle with that is the only reason we've looked so bad.

JRM had 100+ tackles in consecutive years. The scheme requires that position to make 100+ tackles to work. We had no one even near his caliber in there. And that behind a defensive line that was obliterated by injuries and, uh, other things (i.e. Danny O'Brien was sorely missed). Wasn't hard to figure out you could gash us right up the middle.

Jumper was lost all day yesterday. DT is a huge hole no doubt. Still no excuse for the defense we've seen the last two weeks.

I think the dline not staying in their gaps was making Jumper look bad. I saw him giving a lineman the business twice yesterday. It looked like he was telling them what they were supposed to have done.

I kept hitting rewind and watching the dline.... they were getting man handled and bulldozed.

Looking at Penn State this year I think we need to ask the question "was it Franklin's defense and Shoop just kind of oversaw it?" Looks like it was the same set up with Saban and Smart.

I saw this thought in another thread, too, so I'll repeat this here:
They ARE a bit worse. From 21.8 pts to 26.1. Also, 324 yds up to 373 this year. Not to mention 2014 (his peak year there): 18.6 pts and 279 yds per game.

These kind of responses completely crack me up. Do you even know what the scheme is?

You do realize that JRM was the only person with 100 tackles last year and that was 105 including the bowl game? The next closest person was Randolph with 70. And that was not Shoop's scheme, so not sure what your point is by saying he had 100+ in consecutive years.

So basically what you are saying is that if JRM went down, this defense was screwed because nobody else could get 100 tackles. :loco:

I've said it before and it seems fitting in this context. It's difficult to complete maturation when you're recovering from decimation.

Name the last time we had a good secondary outside of EB at Safety? Not plyaers but an overall good secondary. I'll wait...... :snoring:
