Just heard that a plane flying in formation for the Blue Angels crashed and killed the pilot.

well, I guess there are worse ways to go; always terrible news and bothersome to watch videos of those crashes. My family and I lived in Bluffton, SC for 7 mo. before moving here to central VA. Bluffton is not more than 30 min. from Beaufort. Pretty places.

My wife and I were just through there in November and drove right by the base. I stopped and took 2-3 pictures outside the gate.
It's a risky chance the "Blue Angels"& "ThunderBirds" take when performing air shows.
Our prayers go out to the family of the dead Navy pilot and his comrades!

The great UT runningback, Curt Watson was a Blue Angel pilot after his playing days were over.

There have something like 26 deaths of Blue Angel pilots killed in crashes since the program was started in 1948. Makes you wonder if it is worth it, but again when it comes to real combat, no one in the world can out fly our boys.:salute:

They are, truly, amazing to watch. But, rockydoc's right -- a lot of risk involved. Wasn't it the Thunderbirds that lost a whole squadron around 1980?

Anyway, still terrible news. I hope that we all continue to remember that we have a lot of young men and women with their lives on the line everyday for our freedom, both at home and overseas.

Yes it is worth it. It is a sad day when people actually begin questioning whether or not we should continue these two highly prestigious traditions. While we are at it, we should probably scrap the Golden Knights.

BTW, 26 deaths in almost 60 years is not a whole lot. Maybe you should stop driving your cars, since over 41K people die on American highways every year.
