Alabama Football Takes a Hit with Loss Of Linebacker Coach Lance Thompson | Bleacher Report

He's not getting a raise because he's a great linebacker coach. Quite the contrary. As a position coach, he is not known for being a good teacher, game day coach, or strategist. He's actually quite mediocre at best.
So why would Kiffin, Tennessee's new coach, dangle whatever carrot he did to entice Thompson to leave? It's because Kiffin apparently has a new hobby. He collects coaches with extreme recruiting ability.
Kiffin's belief is that if he assembles his "dream team" of recruiting geniuses, he can win with talent alone and his lack of coaching ability will be overridden by great athletes. He's got Daddy, Monte Kiffin, to bail him out on defense, and maybe raw talent can carry the offense.

Unlike Steele, Thompson's intentions were never clear and his honor was tainted by his "sneak off" in leaving without clear reasons or notice.
Karma may follow Thompson with the Tide faithful, as it did when Dennis Franchione left almost as unceremoniously.

They just can't understand why anyone would leave Bama. If it isn't Saban or the long hours, it must be the fans! I don't even think Saban likes them.

All I notice with the Bammers remarks is fear running down their legs. Half of them believe the wheels are coming off, the other half believe Satan can run the whole show on his own. Anytime we can make a Bammer hate us more is a win win situation for me.

I've heard quite the opposite, that thompson is a solid position coach.
More sour grapes. Anyone else worth a crap on that staff we can poach.

Some good points in the write up followed immediately by paranoia and delusional ranting. The writer cannot grasp the fact that possibly folks might leave for other jobs and that Saban is boss that as soon as he leaves the room his employees roll their eyes.

Don't be fooled by this Bammer...Lance Thompson is widely respected as a great position coach. It's just extra icing that he is a top notch recruiter.

I think he was saying that Lane is the "monkey"...just meaning he is unqualified.

Then again...it was cold last night and the trailer he lives in may not have good heat...he could have been actually seeing monkeys.

I don't see what is so wrong about going to a better paying job... Ya, I'd be annoyed too if the shoe were on the other foot, but this is just sour grapes.

I guess this guy is an expert on LB's and LB coaches. So exactly how can he tell when a position coach is bad on game day? Do they not warm up like he wants them too? :ermm:

It sounds like most of the Bammers, think Saban could coach this team without any assistant coaches.

A lot of coaching turnover on the defensive side of the ball. 3 o-line starters gone and no parker wilson. I'd almost make a bet right now bama doesn't sniff the west title next year, enjoy butt wipes.

I've read quite a bit from bammers since yesterday's announcement and here's some info I learned gathered:

- Coach O is a mediocre to poor coach and has been out of recruiting too long to be a factor
- CLK is not really the coach and has no more control than he did in Oakland
- CMK will not be a factor in recruiting since HS players don't know who he is
- CLT is a terrible coach and is only a good recruiter since he is working for Saban
- UT will never steal a recruit bammer wants
- CLK will never bring in the recruits CPF did
- Can't win with more talented players

There are others but I don't want to dumb down the internet by having them posted twice

He begins the article by using the word 'formerly' when he means 'formally'. Obviously he isn't a genius. And no, I'm not the spelling police but this is a 'formal' column, not a random message board post.

Call me crazy, but I am actually nervous about how this team will play. I want gameday coaches. Coaches that can come with a plan, hopefully successful and then make in-game changes to adjust to how the other team plays. Until I see that kind of performance out of this "dream team coaching staff", I'll still be in question of the staff. I'm tired of this nonsense that UT didn't have talented players coming out of HS. UT did and the coaches couldn't get them to perform from a mixture of attitude and sloppy piss poor performance.

You can consider me as dumb as a Bammer, but I'm not sold on the "get the best recruiters possible" coaching plan.
