Blame Game

And since you brought up Petrino-he has a QB that puts the fear of God into a defense. That will create open space for WRs and the running game.
So in 4 years Jones hasn't figured out that Dobbs can't scare anyone throwing the ball?

And then again.... you have to factor in the utter failure of Jones to recruit and develop an OL.

In terms of how we play against lesser teams it seems we are playing to just not get hurt and get the game over with. Those games have truly been bizarre, and are troubling. It's why the easiest money you can make is betting that TN won't cover against a non-conference underdog.

It isn't really bizarre. It is coaching. When you face a lesser opponent, you unleash on them early and take their heart away.... then you don't expose your key players to abuse the whole game long.

Jones has long shown a tendency to overestimate weak opponents.

74 I'm sorry but wayyyyyyy too many people are confirming he was basically run off. Do I think he tried to transfer last year? Yes. Do I think it was his decision to leave this week? Absolutely not.

That is the most convenient answer if you don't want to believe that there are bigger problems that involve Jones ability to coach and run a program.

Frankly, I have felt since seeing Kelly get some 1st team reps earlier in the season that he should have gotten more. He ran the hardest of the 3 and showed some ability to pick his way through the clutter. But Jones didn't give him those carries... why?

We have part of one side of the story coming through a rumor mill and possibly originating with teammates who have an emotional necessity to blame Hurd and not someone they still have to work with every day.

On Hurd's side, I can see good reason why he would feel his talent was being wasted and his body abused. Also, I can see why he might feel that the lack of development on the OL constitutes a broken promise.

On Jones side, I can understand why he might not want to re-shape everything to suit a guy acting like a prima donna.... though he seems to have done some of that already (like letting Hurd and a few other take "days off" during August).

People want to focus on Hurd's failures and he failed in some ways. But there isn't a lot of balance from those folks. They don't want to consider Jones' failures.... including some that are still impacting the team.

Hurd is a stupid kid, like most stupid college kids. He has extrodinary talent and was never properly utilized bc he really doesn't fit the offense optimally. He's entitled just like 95 percent of kids his age. When stuff continues to be difficult and you have entitlement, you're going to have issues. I honestly think jalen will have better luck at another school that can use his skill set optimally and Tennessee is likely better off without the attitude. I don't have ill will towards the kid or coaches, it just wasn't meant to be and both sides are better off parting.

Of course, but have I ever been wrong?

Not gloating. I'm just being honest.

No, I don't think you've ever been wrong about anything you've specifically said about Jalen....and the amount of ish you've gotten for it is mind boggling IMO.

In everything you do in life, you are going to have smoke blown up your a$$ and be lied to. It is part of the process. Does it suck? Hell yeah it does but not at any time would I quit on my team because of it. How bad was it if 70 other kids on the same field taking the same beatings, voted for you to sit against A&M. Same team that tried to hold you accountable for actions detrimental to the team then walk away. It is those hard times that make a leader and not a "sheep" as you call others. If anyone here is a sheep....it is Jalen. NEVER QUIT ON YOUR TEAM!

Sorry I put a person in the uniform and not some robot.

You guys put these players on the same level as Marines going to war. Give their all and no questions asked even when they are breathing in Agent Orange.

Sorry I dont feel that way.

Also, where are the 15 different threads on Danny who got kicked off the team for Meth? Don't see him getting thrown under the bus.

I really have to stop waiting so long to catch up on my thread reading. I miss gems like this while they are still fresh.

You do understand that the majority of those Marines you speak of are roughly Jalen's age, right? Some younger in fact. I recall a few years ago an interview with a young Marine laying in a bed at Walter Reed. He had had his leg amputated due to a wound received in Iraq. The TV reporter interviewed him for a couple of minutes, then finished with the question "Have you had time to think about what you are going to do next?". The young Marines (I believe they said he was 21) answer...."I'm going to see if they will give me another leg and send me back to my unit".

Whether you were being sarcastic, a dumbass or serious in your statement....You are right. They are not even close to being on the same level. I served with and had serve under me many young Marines Jalen's age and never once heard one mentioning quitting.

Those Marines have no idea how hard Jalen Hurd had it. They are over there living the cushy life in the desert in plush tents and not having to deal with inconveniences like AC. And they rarely have to make physical contact with their opponents. They just have to dodge a few pesky bullets every now and then, but not 225 lb. linebackers. And those ready to eat rations are such an improvement over that chef-prepared slop in the team cafeteria.

And, then, the final straw. Vol players have to get up early to lift weights in that terrible gym and then go to class. And play in, gasp, games on Saturdays. Just unbearable.

Yeah, Jalen Hurd could teach those Marines a few things about roughing it.

:hi:

You got a like for that.

Maybe it's just the a$$hole in me but I'd find it absolutely hilarious if we ran out of the I-formation the whole game against Tenn Tech.

Yeah...Jalen looked like a real distraction against Fla and UGa...especially as all of his teammates on offense came running to him to pat him on the back after he scored against UGA in the 3rd...

They were babying him because he got chewed out on the fumble earlier.

I played semi-pro softball for 20 years. Have a cousin that would play also. He would get thrown out at a base an go off on the ump to the point he was completely out of the game and we would have to kiss his azz and baby him to get his head back in the game.

Same thing they were doing with Jalen. Nothing else to see here.
