I have no idea how anybody can evaluate either Coleman or Crompton at this point.

Crompton did manage the game against LSU last year and didn't blow it for us at least...that's should tell us a little...however, he was horrible on the road at Arkansas....

Amen. People are judging on his performances as a freshman. He may have made a few moves on the field that could be construed as cocky......or confident........or being an inexperienced freshman QB. It is all in the eye of the viewer. I, for one, hope JC is all he is cracked up to be because I wouldn't want to put this team in the hands of a freshman QB unless his last name is Manning(and first name isn't Eli).

We have two games by which to evaluate Crompton. I wouldn't say he played spectacular but he gave us chances to win. Next years team will not need a great QB but rather a good QB who can run the offense, get the ball into the right people hands, and make minimal mistakes. Crompton will be that QB at least for the first game.

Did Crompton play on defense during the ARK game?

16-34 for 147 with 2 TD's and a pick isn't stellar by any means...but, I was surprised that they weren't as bad as I thought...

I didn't know this thread had anything to do with defense...

As others have said, i want them to put the QB on the field that gives us the best chance to win.

If Crompton has curbed his "gunslinger" habits from his Freshman year, and can manage a game half as well as Ainge, I think we'll be okay. We'll have almost an identical team in most aspects, so he might be the weaker link, but he also will have had 2 years under Cut... so I'm not judging yes or no on Crompton, it will remain to be seen.

talking about last years Ark game should start and end with the D

I'm not saying the D wasn't bad...you are correct in your statement...the D was the thing that hurt most...however, the premise of the thread was on the QB's....:good!:

According to some of the posts in the recruiting forum, every prospect we now have committed will start for us next year. O'Neil was supposed to come in and start.

Yeah, its annoying, I hear ya.

this is irrelevant. The QB job will be wide open next year. Crompton has done nowhere near nothing to lock it down.

I'm confused ...any way, Crompton has shown that he has the qualities you want in a QB: fearlessness, determination, and a decent arm. Until he gets a chance to take over the team it is impossible to tell at this point if those qualities will match up with the needed smarts to lead the offense. I'll put it this way, he performed well enough against two difficult opponents as a redshirt freshman so I'm giving him the benefit of the doubt at the moment.
