It had to happen and looks like, according to other reports, his termination is imminent. But have to feel sorry for Coach Jones, who from what people around him say is a fine and decent man, unlike his two predecessors. Sure he will get a handsome buyout, but I'm sure he would have rather won an SEC championship. Best of luck to him in the future.

Has Butch been decent to Antone Davis? Asking for a friend.

He’s in the performance business… Win or suffer the consequences

First off I never feel sorry for anyone who is playing/coaching a game and making millions doing it. That said I liked Butch even though his coaching was head scratching, ignorant and at times jaw dropping. But his attitude of blaming others for his pitfalls, expecting the Tennessee faithful to be happy with 8 win seasons and his smugness have gotten to me and I don't care if I never see or hear Lyle ever again. Yes he did some good things but he's not the savior of Tennessee football and it's way past time for him to go. As far as wishing someone best of luck I give that to Currie and the rest of the bumbling, babbling heads in Knoxville, hopefully they won't screw the next hire up.

Butch is in over his head, but he made this job more attractive. He did a nice job of recruiting and has cleaned up the program. I wish be was a better coach, but he did a nice job improving the program even if he couldn't get it done here.

Thanks butch! Looking forward to the future of this program!

While he sucked, it does seem that he put his heart and soul into making TN an elite program. He just didn't have the tools to do that.

Not sure he made the job more attractive. Millions of dollars is probably the main attraction

First, I just say... the time for Jones to go definitely upon us at this point. That said, I agree with you OP... I believe he is a good guy, I like that until the mishap last week you haven’t heard of many of the players he’s recruited getting into trouble off the field. I believe he genuinely wants to see these young men grow into respectable men as they leave this university. He is a great recruiter, He is just not an SEC Coach... you have to be able to play some power football & we can’t. I do appreciate that he is leaving the next guy an astronomically better roster than he inherited when he got here.

Dooley was a little odd and a few said he wasn't very likeable... but why does that mean he wasn't a "fine and decent" man. One of the biggest failures of the guy was that he nor his staff worked as hard as they had to in recruiting. It was publicly said during his time that he wanted limits on how much time his staff spent on the road to accommodate their family commitments.

Kiffin certainly had some questionable morals and ethics... but I'm not sure Jones is vastly superior in that regard to Dooley. In fact, we know that Jones has told lies to the media to cover internal problems. You may think that's justified... but lying is still immoral/unethical.

A very fine man, indeed. He blatantly lied to his last boss and left like a thief in the night. He's punched players, covered up assault and flat out lied to everyone in his press conferences. I'm going to miss this good leader.

I won't make that either but I never base whether or not I have sympathy for someone on how much money they have.

Its nothing personal, just business. I hate that he didnt work out here, but getting 8 mil to leave, isnt a bad deal. He will be fine.

He is literally dumb as a box of rocks and won the lottery by ever getting this gig.

Good riddance.

I want him gone too but you sound like a 11 year old posting garbage like that.

Edit: shouldn’t have singled you out, lots of people on here are apparently in middle school.
