Donovan is out as the Thunder HC. Do we think he stays in the NBA or is Mike White a very nervous guy this morning? If UF has another mediocre season, will they bring Billy back? JMO but Mike White might be a dead man walking.

Being reported he prefers to stay in NBA

I would welcome Billy back to Gainesville in a heartbeat, but knowing Billy personally he prefers the NBA to CBB. All he has to worry about is coaching.

That said, I wouldn’t put it past him to take a long look at Duke when Coach K retires.

The battles between Billy and F Roy would be epic.

Silly man, if you don’t win a championship in the Warriors/Lebron-era NBA, clearly you suck.

He is a college coach and there is no shame in admitting that. Billy is good for the college game and average at best as a NBA coach. UF needs to Ditch Mike White and bring BIlly back.

Yeah, we disagree on the definition of “average at best”.

Good news is you went from saying he “sucks” to “average at best”, so even you knew you were full of $h!t.

You get a gold star for self-awareness. 😂

Yeah, we disagree on the definition of “average at best”.

OK tell me how great of a NBA coach he is then. OKC never recovered from that choke job giving up a 3-1 lead to GS (Durant & Westbrook together). They got bounced in the first round of the playoffs each year after that.

Ok Billy is now an average at best NBA coach and does not suck. You got me there and I do admit I stand corrected.

Never said he was great, just disagreed with your original assertion that he “sucked”, then after a bit of self-reflection, “average at best”.

He’s neither in my opinion.

I disagree with your opinion...most reasonable people would.

If you think Billy Donovan’s ceiling as an NBA coach is “average at best”, there’s not much else to discuss. 😂

After looking at his overall record in the NBA, I was wrong in saying that he sucked.

OKC has continually let their talent deteriorate, yet Donovan kept them a playoff team, usually somewhere around a five seed. Other teams loaded up and Donovan was never able to get back to the Western Conference Championship. It’s on the owner and GM for not getting top tier free agents. Donovan will have no shortage of NBA teams calling.

No, they need to keep Mike White.

Yep. IMO he didn't have a team capable of winning a Finals once Durant left, and that was after his first season. I guess you can argue in some of those seasons after his first season he should have won at least one playoff series, but that's getting kind of picky.

So an average NBA coach makes the playoffs 5 years in a row?

It was a miracle they were up 3-1

Billy D was a great college coach.

He did fairly well with OKC but like LW said, he was unfortunate coaching in an era where LeBron, Kawhi, and Anthony Davis are all playing extremely well in the West.

He could only do so much with what he had to work with.

I think he sticks in the NBA unless he’s offered a gig at one of the big schools.

Go crown him. He had a good run his first year at OKC. Bounced in the first round of the playoffs the following years. I was wrong in my first response and own it saying he sucked. IMO he is a college guy. Agree to disagree and have a lovely morning.

With San Antonio’s steak ending (tied for longest ever), only Houston, Toronto, Portland and Boston have longer playoff appearance streaks than OKC’s 5 (note that Indiana also has five). But Billy D is average at best.
