we all know he wants to stay close to home in N.Carolina.....and maybe my idea has already been talked about, but could Bill Cowher be a viable replacement for Fulmer? Would he want to come? Can his style transcend into the SEC? Just some thoughts.......what do ya'll think?

Doesn't want to come, not a viable replacement, old school when we need new school. We don't need to beat Alabama at the price of our coach, rather the quality.

can't see cowher bringing in the spread offense and matching up with the NEW 'ideas', for a lack of terms, of the new college schemes in the SEC.

Cowher + innovative = aint gonna happen

He would run dives and power football 2 much!

So You guys are wanting a NEW Tennessee....not an improvement on the old one.

Cowher and Gruden have won on footballs largest stage (for some of you, that IS NOT the SECCG)...especially Cowher, who took a crappy Pittsburg team and turned them into SB champions.

Sounds to me like you guys wanna follow the UM lead and see a spread offense...me, I could care less if they wanted to go back to the SIngle WIng, as long as TROPHYS GET BACK INTO KNOXVILLE

I could care less about a spread offense, however I would like to see a younger coach come in.

I'm not entirely against Gruden, just would like to see somebody else.

That the reason I really didnt expound on Gruden as much as Cowher. Gruden won because Dungy left TB with an awesome defense...and correct, he hasnt dont anything since.

Cowher = 6 AFC title games 2 Superbowl appearances and 1 Superbowl win

Yep, and he pretty much did that from scratch. He knows how to prepare a kid for the pros (recruiting point), he knows how to motivate (he has to...how could he have gotten multi million dollar players to come together and win a SB?), all he has to do when visiting a recruit is wear his SB ring (even Carroll doesnt have that).

Id endorse Cowher more than anybody else at this point.

To each his own, but I'd go after Bo Pelini or Brent Venables myself

Coaching philosophies aside, you are talking about bringing NFL guys to, besides Notre Dame, the most completely dependent on nationwide recruiting, program in major college ball. You simply must have someone who is through and through a nut about recruiting. NFL coaches have not been out there doing that kind of stuff.

I don't believe Cowher is wanting to do that.

Excellent point and I agree. But that SB ring and the mystique he carries with him will make up for a lot of that.

I don't know that Cowher would be the right guy, just a thought. At this point, I don't know who would be the right fit. Is there anybody out there that is really tearing things up? In addition, I am with the poster who says they don't care what we run as long as there is winning going on. Winning has to be the rule again and not the exception. So, I figure Fulmer stays but we bring in some new D coaches. Who is a good D-Coordinator choice? Here's a name for you...Woody Widnehoffer (sp?) He has fielded top ranked defenses on every level and gave Peyton Manning fits when he was qb and Woody was at Vandy.

Running a spread offense and finding a coach who will install a spread offense is not the answere..The answer to a spread offense is a DEFENSE that can stop it. If you stop the spread then you can run whatever Offense you want to....Smashmouth football, Run n Gun, what ever...but bottom line the spread offense has to be stopped before anything else matters :whistling:
