Battle's record in 7 seasons as coach at Tennessee: 59-22-2 (71.1% winning percentage)

Fulmer's record in the last 7 seasons (2002 through 2008 so far) at Tennessee: 53-27 (66.3% winning percentage)

In Battle's last season, he changed offensive coordinators and hired Dal Shealy. Shealy would later go on to become head coach at Richmond.

This season, Fulmer hires a new offensive coordinator named Dave Clawson, the former head coach at...????

Insteresting comparision. But Battle was a Bama guy, that's why he was fired, from what i've been told.

If that is the case, then he never would/should have been the pick over Johnny Majors in 1969/1970. There were boosters that were suggesting Majors as the head coach when Dickey (a Florida guy) left.

Coach Battle was a strange hire, but one of the all-time greats.
