Biggest bust as a highly touted recruit.

That was Tony McDaniel! I was there that night too (though about an hour later). It was my first night working at the Rec Center and they made me clean up the blood after the police finished taking their report.

Fulmer really had a good handle on his team..

I just remember Fulmer complaining before the season ended how we deserved a New Year’s Day Bowl. I mean, every sound bite coming from him was that. Then totally laid an egg in that bowl game.

Was he trying to get Casey Clausen’s stats up that game or something?
We did. We were ranked number 6 in the country. And it was BCS bowl not a NYD bowl.

They played fine for a half and then it piled on them after two bad calls. And idk what you mean about Clasuen, that’s a weird comment

Clemson wasn't even ranked. We looked disinterested the entire game.

Chris Donald. Consensus 5 star LB and never touched the field. Khalil McKenzie deserves an honorable mention but at least he was on the field his whole career. Bryce Brown was actually good but didn’t work out for off field stuff

WR Kenny O'Neal was 5 star i think and never done crap on field.
Davante Bourke was in 2012 Dooley signing class,4 star late addition out of Louisiana, don't think he made it thru spring practice.

Kenny was a 4* via JUCO IIRC. Something like a 2 or 3* out of HS. But yes, very overrated regardless.

Bailey was a product of bad timing for himself in general. Signed on to one system that abruptly changed. And likely more suited to G5 at the time. He was recruited into a system that may have suited him, but the O line at the time required a highly mobile QB that could run for his life. Hate it didn't work out for him, but he never really gained enough traction to become a bonified starter anywhere else, and IMO never made transfer decisions that would be favorable to him to establish some real play time. And not all move on to successful college careers so just as likely he was rated too high coming out of HS and had a hard ceiling.

Bailey was also the product of having Arik Gilbert to throw to in high school. While Gilbert's career went up in smoke (literally)-he was an absolute monster in high school. There are several other D1 signees on the team as well.

Basically, he was the product of being surrounded by amazing talent that were basically men playing against boys.

The warning signs were all there. We were so desperate for any success as a fan base at the time we simply bought the snake oil about him being the next great Vol QB hook line and sinker.

The fact that he could not even win the starters job at UNLV after he left here should have told anyone who was listening a great deal.

We were. It was the Peach Bowl vs a second rate ACC team, which back then was a third tier bowl. It was NYE in Atlanta and we had been screwed out of a BCS game. Nobody cared .
Exactly...we were #6 in the country after beating Miami and were in the Top 8 most of the entire season. We were 10-2 and were sent to the Peach Bowl to play an unranked Clemson team while these teams colored red played in better bowls

Look at final standings and where we fell to:

1 - USC (11-1)
2 - LSU (12-1)
3 - Oklahoma (12-1)
4 - Michigan (10-2)

5 - Texas (10-2)
6 - Tennessee (10-2)
7 - Ohio State (10-2)
8 - Kansas State (11-3)
9 - Florida State (10-2)
10 - Miami (10-2)
11 - Georgia (10-3)
12 - Purdue (9-3)

13 - Iowa (9-3)
14 - Miami OH (12-1)
15 - Washington St (9-3)
16 - Ole Miss (9-3)
17 - Florida (8-4)
18 - Boise St (12-1)
19 - TCU (11-1)
20 - WVU (8-4)

BCS Bowls/Better Bowls:
NC Game - LSU vs Oklahoma
Rose - USC vs Michigan
Orange - Florida St vs Miami
Fiesta - Ohio State vs Kansas St
CapOne - Georgia vs Purdue
Cotton - Ole Miss vs Oklahoma St
Outback - Florida vs Iowa

We got hosed by the Fiesta taking Ohio St and Kansas St, but I guess the Fiesta had to take a Big 12 school. The Orange having to take the ACC and Big East for a game that was a rematch sucks. Georgia thumped us at home that season. Tampa should’ve been worst case scenario, but we somehow got screwed and sent to Atlanta. Wasn’t it 2 years in a row? We also got the brakes beaten off of us by Maryland. Thinking that was maybe 2002?

Difference was Maryland was a better team by far and we were the lucky ones who got a higher bowl than deserved in 2002

2003 we should've been in the Fiesta Bowl but the CapOne, Outback and Gator all passed due to other politics in the SEC

Ended up playing in the league as a G

I got that he was massively hyped. But, missing his senior season because of regulations and then coming in out of shape and overweight was like a big cloud hanging over him. I can't call him the biggest bust even though he was so highly rated because he did have decent production here and made it to the NFL.

He was all conference with 1st in touchdowns. How is that anywhere near a bust. Come on.
This. Like it or not, he was one of the best receivers that has ever laced them up at the University of Tennessee. All SEC first team and produced for 3 years for us, two of them highly productive.

I knew Andre a bit around the time of the incident. He told me Brooks and Hendrix had some sort of feud and it all came to a head when Brooks came at Hendrix with a gun. Patterson was only suspended because while he was with Hendrix (and had his back) during the last confrontation, he wasn't engaged in the ongoing feud.

I liked Andre and he seemed truthful, but I'm sure there was more to it.

I didn't know Hendrix and Brooks never came across as approachable around Gibbs Hall.
I read between the lines and I saw the word female in there somewhere

KST was the B12 champion. They were guaranteed a spot in the BCS.

The SEC wasn’t affiliated with the Gator Bowl at the time. It was ACC/Big East/Notre Dame. UGA was the Eastern Division champs and hadn’t been to the Citrus/Cap One Bowl in over a decade, so that was a pretty easy decision.

The Florida/Outback Bowl is the one that doesn’t make a lot of sense. They had played in the Outback the previous year, and TN had played in the Peach. You would’ve thought that would’ve been flipped for the ’03 bowl season.

Ok. I was thinking that was Oklahoma, but I guess that was the year that K State thumped them in the Big 12 title game and OU still got to play for the title. Yet there are still some on here clamoring for the BCS on occasion.
