Biggest 2016 College Football Storylines 50 Days Away from Week 1 | Bleacher Report

6. Is Tennessee for real? For the second straight year, this is the year in Tennessee. The Volunteers couldn't make it happen last season, but they still return a lot of firepower from a team that won nine games. Quarterback Joshua Dobbs and his "Chain Moving Gang" in the backfield should pair well with new defensive coordinator Bob Shoop's unit. They've all got to get over the hump on Rocky Top.

We have WAY too much talent and experience not to be "For Real" We had 4th quarter leads against two playoff teams and the SEC East champ last season. We have almost our entire squad returning and we hired one of the brightest defensive minds in the game.

Oh yeah, things are about to get real in Knoxville.

Apparently there is an unwritten rule that you can't do a story on UT without tossing in a false narrative about the Vols not living up to the hype in previous years.

Heck, I dunno. Maybe it is a written rule somewhere.

Agree. How has the myth that last year was "the year for/of Tennessee" taken hold? It's not true.

We weren't even picked to win our division in 2015. Prior to that, we hadn't been picked to even win the East since when, like 2005 or so?

There's been a lot of talk about our comeback and the excellent job Jones has done rebuilding the program over the last 2 years. But this is the first year anybody is picking us to win a championship/title of any sort.

They should be talking about UGA in the East and LSU in the West every year for falling short of expectations.

It only takes one idiot.
You know what journalism is today.
Change a few sentences around but basically copy what the other guy said.
Then collect check.

The media is usually the one responsible for creating all the hype and then they throw stones when teams don't meet the expectations that were set for them

This has become the most annoying rhetoric of the offseason for me. Are people really that short on memory? Just because we played teams a whole lot closer than most thought we would all of a sudden the season was short on expectation. The close losses hurt last year, but I was borderline thrilled with the obvious progress.

+1
The losses hurt but there were moments LATE in the 4th that I thought we were going to dethrone Bama.
I always believe we can but admit, I was extremely hyped and surprised for a bit.

Yes sir. Vin Scully has a great quote about this... I forget the player in question. But he basically said, 'We always blame the player or the team, but never go back and check the work of the evaluator.'

Except it was more elegantly worded, because Vin Scully.

When you are a dark horse pick it seems you underachieve when you don't overachieve.
