Bigger upset?

I heard this on sportstalk today so I thought I would ask.

Would you rather Tennessee go to a bowl game or beat Florida?

I would rather go to a bowl game myself.

Beat Florida!! No doubt about it...beat florida! Realistically...what bowl are we going to..even if we beat florida? Capital one or the outback...at best. More likely that we head to atlanta or some other weak bowl. If you told me we'd play in the Sugar Bowl...I'd probably take that. But no...given that question right now...beat the freakin gators!!

I would rather us beat Florida and Crompton plays like a star, but he gets hurt before the next game and is out for the season giving reason for us not to be in a bowl! Because everyone would still know that we would have been a great team!

Beating Florida would be the biggest national sports story for an entire week. Maybe two. It would be a vastly bigger story than whatever mediocre bowl game we end up playing in. It doesn't matter if we eventually went 5-7 overall; if Kiffin beat Meyer in Gainesville, his profile goes through the roof. Which drives recruiting. Which drives the future.

I care a lot more about winning championships in a couple of years than I do playing in the Liberty Bowl this year. Nothing that could happen this year would fuel that more than beating Florida.

I wouldn't wish an injury on any player.

Do yall think if we beat Florida this year it would be a bigger upset than when we beat Miami in '03?
Wouldn't even be close. We were as good as Miami in '03. If we beat Florida this year, it will be one of the 3 biggest upset wins UT history.

Wouldn't it be cool of we won and Tebow did the "I'm a soldier" speech after the game.
Make fun of it all you want, if players had the passion Kellen Winslow exhibited for his team at UT recently we wouldn't have lost more than we've lost 2 of the last 4 years.

i see burning cars and riot police.

Ah, that brings back memories of my Freshman year at UT. 2005, after the LSU game, at least 2000 students, maybe more, all went down to the parking lot outside of neyland (it was a monday night, and no one had anything better to do - who studies? thats for newbs).

Not really rioting, but a burning couch. Found out later that my older sister was dating the dude who burned the couch :eek:lol:

I'm calling it. If we beat Florida at the Swamp this year, Tebow consoles himself by breaking his celibacy.

My freshman year as well. I ran out of Reese barefoot and made my way to Lot 9. It sure was great to be a Tennessee Vol.

I'll just dare say a win over Florida this year in the Swamp would probably be the biggest upset in my lifetime. And while I still don't think we have a QB or depth in the trenches that can beat them, I also think we're going to hold our own.

I'd trade a win over Florida for a non Jan 1 bowl game. If we could get a Jan 1 game or better, I'll take the loss because that means this team won 9+ games this year, probably sitting as a Top 15 team again, and we're in great shape for 2010 on.

Next question - if you could beat one of them, who would you rather beat - Florida or Bama?

Florida. At least Bama has some classy fans. Florida fans are just one giant collection of tools.

You seemed worried about it. You post here a lot. Faux confidence?

I have been posting here for a long time prior to this game coming up.

Seriously, the more I look at this the bigger a mismatch it looks like in terms of overall talent and ESPECIALLY depth. And as I've said before, the Vols' greatest asset going into that game was going to be Gator complacency, which Kiffin has managed to take care of.

Upsets happen all the time. I do not discount that, and I appreciate that we Gators are pretty arrogant about this one as it approaches, but if you ask me its justified.

I don't have anything to offer you by way of "If we lose, I'll go away for a month" or anything of the like. While a sizeable contingent of VN faithful would be delighted at my absence, I think that those folks would be offset by the number of VN posters who would enjoy rubbing my nose in an upset for at least a month or so, every day, a lot.

As I say, however, I'm not real worried about it.

As you shouldn't be. We aren't in the same class now, which you tell us everyday, lest we forget. I don't think we will lay down for you like we did in the past, though.

Absolutely!...All the stars are lined up for Florida and anyone that knocks them off early will be heavy underdogs to say the least and in the Miami game we were ranked...Not this year.

The game two years ago definitely felt like it had a give up moment there, early in the third, and the final score was therefore a bit misleading. I would agree with that.

I do expect UT under new management to give their strongest effort throughout this year's game, from start to finish. I absolutely am buying into the notion that this coaching staff will simply not let them take their foot off the gas.

And I also think that the recruiting is obviously improving. I've made no secret that I wonder whether Kiffin has the temperament and gravitas for this job. He might just be one of those guys that shoots off at the mouth in the offseason and causes problems, but is all business and produces once the scrimmages and the season begins. Don't know yet.

UT is definitely changing. Going to be an interesting ride.

The impact of it would be HUGE! I for one would love to see it. My biggest fear is Tebow. You have to figure out a way to shut him down.
