Big recruiting weekend 10/5

I know there won't be many people at the game who actually come on to these boards, but I know there are some.

This is a huge weekend and we as a fan base should really watch what we say, how we act, and how we represent this football team. All the time, but especially this weekend.

Danny Parker with fox sports tweeted "4-star that's visited #Tennessee this fall tells me he doesn't like it when #Vols fans leave before the 4th quarter.” And then retweeted by Chris Weatherd. Some people told me it was Lauderdale who originally said it but I don't know.

I would hope that the recruits would stay focused on the coaches opinions and comments about them, but this day and age, with social media, etc. they are very interested in how we as fans think about them and what we say about them.

Butch and Co. has this program headed the right way, I know it. We as fans could really help them this weekend by showing support, for 4 full quarters. No Boo's, no name calling.

If you as a fan want a team who gives their all for the entire game, sticks together, why wouldn't you do the same?

Your plea to fans is admirable but it won't do any good. The only way you are going to get people to stay for 4 full quarters is to be in the game in the 4th quarter. Can you really blame fans for leaving in the 4th if the game has been decided? I mean, most are sitting on hard concrete for quite a long time and people want to beat traffic. Butch Jones and the boys can prevent this from happening by keeping the games close. If a recruit doesn't want to come to UT because fans leave in the 4th then they are probably a recruit we don't want anyway. We need guys who come here because they want to be a VFL and love the university. Those same recruits need to look around the country and not be so shallow because leaving in the 4th quarter happens all over...it's not exclusive to UT.

Stop being so pathetic...this program is nothing without fans. The players that want to turn around a great program will come for that reason and Butch. There is no way fans should clean up for a 18 year old recruit that might be good, we should want players that can handle a little adversity and criticism.

The recruit was Chris Weatherd, who is a definite need.

The Team needs to give the fans a reason to stay. I know I stay until I see triple zeros, but the appeal to beat some traffic out of town and not hear the damn victory chants from the visiting sections is pretty substantial.

How about getting the students to come at all? Don't berate the ones who have paid their money and possible come a long way to actually see the game at Neyland and not in front of the plasma.

Unfortunately, fans will leave if the game is not close and there will be some immature knuckleheads who will boo the team. They may think they are booing Worley or the coaches, but recruits will project it to their future playing days. We will eventually lose 3 or 4 prospects because of the bashers and the people booing certainly won't encourage anyone to sign with the Vols.

this kind of crap gets old. not that a recruit didnt say it but...this would happen at any school in the nation. he should say its great that so many people showed up at the game to begin when we havn't beaten a ranked opponet in 5 years! that's a dedicated fan base. but they can(and will) look at it from whatever prespective they want.

These games are not cheap. I have been to every home game this year and I have stayed to the end. I guess some people don't mind paying that much money to watch half a game but I don't get it.

I really don't understand leaving a game early. There are only a handful of home games each year, a lot of people only go to 1-2 a year, we count days during the off season until football starts again, and as previously stated tickets are not cheap. I've never left a game early never will due to how much we're winning or losing by.

True we have a lot of big time recruits coming to the game saturday. So please don't start booing if it gets ugly

I never have either. If I'm going to a game I'm staying from 60:00 to 00:00. Especially since I'm driving a few hundred miles to make it.

i feel the same way. When I was little, my grandfather and I were at at a HS game. I was complaining about being bored and wanting to go bc the game was onesided.

He looked at me and said something similiar to what the Op said and it has stuck with me ever since, "We expect them to stay the whole time, why can't we."

That's all Ive ever needed to think. I never leave a game early.


And if traffics an excuse, stay in your seat and wait about 20 minutes, or go by the UT store bc traffic is at it's worst right at the end or near to it.

Just think, if you are thinking about leaving early, isn't the majority thinking the same thing?

I will be there supporting the orange. My seat is near the recruit section so they will def here full spport for our team from me. And I will be loud!!!

Most people in my section were gone by the fourth quarter. The early start time and the heat were all factors. Many said they were going to go to the strip and get some drinks. I dont think UT is the only place this is going on. All players want the fans support, they will see Neyland rocking Saturday. Weathered has not seen anything like what the atmosphere will be like at kickoff, now late in the game is another story....if its not close, my section will be a ghost town.

Some people go to watch the team play; some people go to watch the team win. There is a difference. My Dad never missed a home game while I was growing up. He always left early. When I was with Dad I can never remember him staying to the end. I remember missing some great comebacks over the years but he seemed to enjoy the comebacks just as much listening to John Ward as we were fighting our way out of Knoxville as if we'd stay in our seats. He was one of the most loyal fans/boosters I've ever known and it drove me crazy leaving early, especially in a close game. With Dad there were seemingly countless things more important than Tennessee Football on his list of priorities but I don't ever remember him missing a home game or the game in Birmingham. He did things his way. When I started going on my own I could stay till the end, go on the field (back then), and enjoy post game celebrations with my friends who were students there. I still never leave early when I can make a game. I'm a life long Vol but I'd never claim to be a more loyal fan than Dad. That would just be absurd.

What's pathetic is booing the guys who play for our University. I could understand if they were making millions a year, but these are guys who do it for the school and chose our University to play for.

Have you ever been a recruit? Have you ever visited schools as a 16 - 17 year old? I can tell you first hand it's not exactly inviting when you leave under the impression you'll get booed through adversity.

Back in the day when the team wasn't doing well people would be sitting in the stands wearing paper grocery bags over their heads. Another very popular occurrence was sending moving vans to the Coach's home. I'm sure there were many more such displays of dissatisfaction but those two were very popular. Booing has always been the favorite go-to for the unimaginative among us. The point is - this is big boy football. In this league and at this university if you can't stand the heat then you have to face the fact that this is in all likelihood probably not the school or league for you. We want winners not whiners.

Traffic blows whenever you leave but some people have a long drive home. My son won't let me leave early so I stay.
