It's just a general reflection of his media skills. "Smash mouth" sounds somewhat exciting, even to those of us who know better. "Old school football" sounds like some game your grandaddy played in a hayfield. It's like a charitable solicitor who says "hey, can you spare some money for my charity" versus someone who says "How would you like to help change things for the better?" Sure, it's semantics but one sounds better than the other.Yea...Phil has never talked about playing smash mouth football...
You can forget about guys like tyrelle Pryor coming to UTK when Phil is running his mouth to the media about "old school football". To kids today that translates to "old timey football", which is more boring to play than it is to watch.
It is just inconsequential to me. I would hope the coaches develop close relationships with potential recruits that are deep enough not to allow a players decision to hinge on how the coach phrases something in an interview.
