BIG 10 Floats 24 Team CFP and No Conference Championship

It’s better than their 28 team proposal from a few months ago, I guess.

Just stay at 12 teams. I know that means less money, but I don’t care. The 12 team format is great and just needs tuneups, like the top 4 seeds getting home games instead of neutral site games. But the pursuit of more money always prevails in the end so it’s only a matter of time until it expands.

8 teams would be the perfect number imo.

The playoff games bring in so much money there is no way it's going to stay at 12 teams. I'm surprised there are only going to be 12 teams next year. I can't see giving up conference championship games though. Especially the SEC.

16 teams, NO byes for conf. champs or conf. championship game winners, strictly team full season CFP system ranking 1 -- 16, Top 8 get first game in home stadium, no. 1 plays no. 16, no. 2 plays no. 15, etc. This would be my personal preference. I could also go for a 24 team playoff with the same rules, but I think 16 is the better no. of teams.

16 with no byes or AQs are the best way to go but I believe that it will go to 24 eventually based on what I've seen

Sankey won’t agree to that and giving up the SEC championship game
He's an idiot! No SEC coach wants to play in the SEC Championship game, for fear of injuries. Go back to 8 conference games and no conference championship. A 16 team playoff is perfect, not 24.

The playoffs should start at week 1. Start with 2048 teams (including D1-NAIA), play for 10 weeks until we have a champion.

It’s the only way.

Probably not the popular opinion, but I wish we’d go back to the BCS 1 vs 2 model. I miss the Jan. 1st bowl games still having some meaning and the season ending early January. The current playoff format strings the season out too long.

Couldn't agree more, but that horse left the barn so long ago that he has passed on.

It's only about the $$$$. We all know that, and at the end of the day will only come down to dividing up who is making how much money. What is best for the sport or the fans is utterly irrelevant.

I know we're going there eventually, and I can actually live with 24 if it means two rounds at campus sites and no more conference championship games. Sankey will have to be dragged away screaming and crying from that cash cow.

I dunno. I feel like 1998 Ohio State might beat Florida. More than fair chance of probably looking at Tennessee vs Ohio State in the national championship in that scenario.

Also, given the earlier in-season result with the same roster and their defense pretty much utterly shutting down UF’s offense, I’m not sure UF beats FSU in the quarterfinals either.

Back then Ohio State could not beat a Southern team to save it's life...not saying it was impossible but they were consistently overrated even that year

Again though, it’s also worth pointing out that FSU - sans starting QB - bullied UF that year (UF’s offense scored one TD its first drive, a field goal in the second quarter, and that was it: Florida ended the game with like 17 total rushing yards on 20 rushes and 187 yards passing, while FSU had like close to 400 yards of total offense…and that was in a game where FSU turned the ball over 3 times to UF’s 0 turnovers).

Why do you have Florida beating FSU when FSU beat them the last game of the season?
