Looking to invest in some computer software to make beats...have looked around and have gotten mixed reviews and a ton of opinons.

I have heard that Fruity Loops is very good...a few other as well.

Any of you make beats, if so help a man out.

do you have a midi keyboard? It's a huge PITA to try to make beats/loops/songs/etc without one.

But fruity loops is for ghetto high school kids who think they will be the next big thing. I suppose its the best for beginners - but can still be tricky to get the most out of it without watching some tutorials or reading up on it.

But pro tools and logic are the most legit - but if you are a beginner you will be totally lost with either of those.

See I have no clue what to get, I just researched online what was good and heard that FL Studio was good, not sure though.

I have heard that Pro Tools is best served for bands and not making beats, of course being a noob I would want an easy to use interface.

Been trying to download a demo tonight but not having any luck, just want to mess around and see what is what.

I have a keyboard that I got years ago, the thing is pretty basic and not something that would be studio quality.

Thanks for the help and any future help you may have.

You make beats?

I don't really makes beats that much. I have a friend who has a recording studio and he regularly makes loops/beats and records artists. I'm into playing/created music (username actually refers to the bass guitar and not fishing despite popular belief - but I do like bass fishing) I've messed around a lot with his software and I have quite a few video and audio editing software on my computers (not exactly all legally acquired.

But if you can get a mini-midi keyboard that plugs in directly via USB and doesn't have to go through an audio interface that's better. Or any keyboard you can get your PC to recognize. It seriously takes way too long and further complicates things for new people to try to create stuff without on using just your mouse.

Fruity Loops (FL Studio) probably is the best thing to choose since its your first thing.. but if you don't feel bad about illegally downloading some of the software - I'd look @ others once you get the hang of it.

The biggest thing is you need to find sounds packs and different instruments to use in the software - they aren't free and very limited usually when you just purchase the basic software.. once again you can get quite a few illegally, lol.

A really, really basic thing you could get would be Music Maker 15 (16 may have come out now I don't know).. but that is just super generic and probably more focused on songs.. I'm assuming you need like instrumental type beats.

Pro tools is pretty much the industry standard for recording.. but it does everything including making beats. You can probably get a lot more sound packs/effects (the official name for those are escaping me atm) in something more official like that. Just look into that in the future if you continue to make things.
