#4 class - Tennessee
The Volunteers have an incoming linebacking group that is big on quantity and quality. Top247 prospect Dillon Bates has great instincts, fundamentals and measurable, which makes sense with him being the son of former Volunteer standout and NFL veteran Bill Bates. Bates times his blitzes well and should be able to hold his assignments in zone coverage as well. Four-star JUCO prospect Chris Weatherd brings an explosive, disruptive force off the edge as a hybrid defensive end/linebacker. Four-star prospect Gavin Bryant has few weaknesses in his game, possessing the ability to win the battle at the point of attack while still showing some physical upside, even at 6-foot-2, 230 pounds. Four-star Kevin Mouhon came back from a groin injury to have a solid senior season, and while he is an inside/outside tweener from a size and speed standpoint, Mouhon is a productive tackler and an inside thumper at times. Jakob Johnson is raw but shows upside due to his size and physical style of play. He could also grow into a defensive end. Three-star prospect Elliot Berry is undersized but moves well enough to track down ball carriers and should be an impact special teams addition. Depending on his physical progression, Jerome Dews could end up playing linebacker down the road, and he flashes the instincts to be a difference maker.

Great group, and a welcome sight... Don't call myself an expert, but I'm very high on Dews a few years down the road

How is FSU above us? 2 highly rated prospects does not trump 6 prospects. The others I can see.

Whatever happened to Chuck Smith? He was here few years ago during the Dooley regime but then I missed where he went to.

Need to bring him back to coach all these LB's.

Need to bring him back to coach all these LB's.

1. Chuck Smith is back in ATL, his hometown. He still runs his own offseason training program for football players teaching them passing rushing techniques. He was recently on Atlanta Housewives show. Did not come off well apparently.

2. He coaches DL's not LB's. He was a great DE and was always considered a great technician and had a non-stop motor, not the most physically talented DE, but worked hard all the time.

3. I like Chuck Smith but he is not cut out to be a college coach. He caused a lot of trouble when he was on staff and he messed up several recruitments and was not prepared to handle teaching all of his position groups the X's and O's and assignment stuff. Chuck is great (one of the best) at teaching pass rushing techniques and 1 on 1 individual instruction stuff and drills, but he was not good for the kids in the classroom and he was not organized and professional in that regard. Nor was he good at helping them manage their academics.

Chuck was the one that kind of screwed us in the LSU game with the Classic Dooley 13 right? I think he feuded with Wilcox too.

I remember Chuck talking about how Dooley didn't know how to manage a coaching staff. Then the next 2 years a mass exodus of his assistants leaving.

Here's Scout's positions rankings as of this afternoon.
Link:Scout.com: Football Recruiting

Here are the UT rankings in the following positions.
QB - Didn't sign any.
RB - No. 15, but we should move up if we can get Scott 4* or long shot pull Williams 4* from LSU.
WR/TE - No. 2 class
OL - Didn't make top 15
DL - No. 5, but we should move up if we can get one of Evans 4*, or Sawyer 4*.
LB - No. 3 class
DB - No. 1 class. If we can pull Jackson it will be lights out!!!
