Not arguing on this point, but Fulmer owes his "prime recruiting" reputation to David Cutcliffe's successful recruiting of Peyton Manning.Lacy doesn't hold a candle to Fulmer during his prime recruiting years! Of course, he wasn't recruiting against Saban, Orgeron, Smart, Fisher, Kiffin, or Mullen!!!
Much as I hate him, it’s Kiffin. Think about the level of kids he pulled here, right away. None of this making connections takes time, etc. He came in an immediately made Tennessee a force in recruiting.
Except they had studs before and after Peyton. DC did a great job with Peyton but despite opinions of Fulmer, he could recruit with the best of them. He was still putting together top classes nearly a decade after Peyton's class. Not arguing on this point, but Fulmer owes his "prime recruiting" reputation to David Cutcliffe's successful recruiting of Peyton Manning.
Would they have been kicked off the team if Kiffin had stayed? There are busts from every single class for every program. How many five stars did Fulmer recruit that were busts? You are delusional! How many of the players that Kiffin and company recruited got kicked off the team, were busts, or left before completing four years? That is definitely a big factor in recruiting. You have to recruit great players that contribute for at least two years!!!
Your praise is over the top. Kiffin only signed one class... and most of those guys didn't stick around for various reasons (Janzen Jackson, David Oku, Nu'keese Richardson, Bryce Brown). Kiffin also lost a solid commitment that Fulmer had in '09 in DJ Swearinger who went to South Carolina and became a 2nd round pick of the Redskins. He also told Tajh Boyd to walk... a questionable move, to say the least.Much as I hate him, it’s Kiffin. Think about the level of kids he pulled here, right away. That is nowhere near what Fulmer was pulling in from '94-'99 anyway. Take a look at that '96 class. Chad Clifton, Dwayne Goodrich, Shaun Ellis, Raynoch Thompson, Tee Martin, Eric Parker, Eric Westmoreland, Darwin Walker... It's not as impressive at the top as some other classes we had, but damn near everybody panned out... hell, even the scrubs from that class contributed - like TE Eric Diogu, for example.
How did Kiffin lose Swearinger? Swearinger had already decommitted and committed to South Carolina before Kiffin had even been hired.Your praise is over the top. Kind of hard to stick around when you are getting arrested and being charged with felonies too. Nu'keese Richardson was gone over a month before Kiffin was.... Thanks to that brilliant move at the Pilot, after he had already been in trouble. Not only that but they "didn't pan out" argument doesn't hold when Kiffin was here for only one season. Kind of hard to stick around when the coach goes one and done.
