Best quarterback in Vols history/Tommy Potts question (split)

My personal favorite Tennessee quarterback was Heath Shuler. The guy was forever determined to score. He looked for all the "skill" players to make a move, and if nobody did, then he made it for them.

My pick would definitely be Peyton first. Clausen 2nd Tee 3rd Kelly 4th Holloway 5th.

Clausen is very underrated, but I would put Shuler 2nd. Not only was he a great quarterback, he's probably the best athlete we've ever had at QB.

If he was in CBJs offense, he'd rush for 1000.

who do you guys think is the best QB in Vols history. i know alot of ppl are going to say that peyton manning is the number one QB in Vols history, but i think andy kelly is the best QB in Vols history. when he left UTK, he held almost every single passing record at UTK.

:crazy::crazy::crazy:

Andy Kelly would freaking throw 8 interceptions in the 1st three quarters...and then go crazy in the 4th quarter to win on the last drive every freaking game.

Actually, Andy Kelly was an amazing Arena League QB. from his wiki page..."At the end of the 2006 season, he held several all-time AFL career records, including touchdown passes (767), passing yards (39,948), pass attempts (5,827), pass completions (3,621), and interceptions (155)."

It seems like he did complete about 15 out of 16 in one game. I'll vote him way up there for that one game.

Doubt that happened maybe it did or maybe you are thinking of David Rudder who completed 11/12 passes against Alabama in 1978. (of course we still lost)

*upon further review you were sort of right. Completed 12/15 against Auburn when we demolished them in 1980. That was one of my favorite games of all time so I'm embarrassed that I didn't remember it. James Berry and the defense was boss that day.

Peyton all the way. Look what he's continued to do in the pros. Andy Kelly is the first Vols QB I can remember(also watched him with the Nashville Kats), and will always hold sentimental value. Andy had some elite Wr's though. Tee Martin didn't win those 13 games in 98 on his own, and I view him as a turncoat. Also, his comments about Jalen Hurd were uncalled for, and just plain wrong.

Athletically Shuler and Robinson are head and shoulders above the rest. If Heath had come back for his senior year he might have won the statue. T-Rob and that injury took him out.

Hard to argue Manning, but, in my mind, for college, has to be Heath

I believe Shuler still owns the high jump record in NC. He was unreal athletically.

Agree ..

Add Holloway and you have the top 4 qb's in UT History, imo.

Clausen had an amazing road record. Tee never lost at home.

Peyton is Peyton.

Hard to pick. I loved Andy Kelly and Shuler too.

Like I said in the best quarterback discussion we had a couple of weeks ago, Tony Robinson is the best overall college quarterback we have ever had IMO, with Peyton second. I was too young to remember Condredge, but from the highlights I've seen he would have to be up there near the top.

I agree with this 100%. I've always had Peyton at #2, and Bobby Scott at #3. He's highly undervalued,
but he was only throwing the ball 15-16 times a game.

Kellys come back against Notre Dame is one of my favorite UT games of all time, but he made a lot of boneheaded plays. Payton is still the best I've ever seen. I put heath shuler above kelly

Heath Shuler was Tebow + legitimate QB skills. As someone else mentioned, he may have won the Heisman if he'd stayed for his senior season, and may have been the #1 pick in the NFL Draft and first ever pick for the Carolina Panthers. Instead, he left early, wound up in a sh!tty situation in Washington, got hurt, and that was that.

I always thought of Tee Martin as Tebow + legitimate QB skills + Speed

Peyton is #1

Shuler is #2 for me. He's the first QB I remember when I was younger. He also wore my favorite number and was then drafted by my favorite NFL team.
