There are several places in Chicago that claim to have the best pizza. Big Ed's is an East Tennessee treasure.

Joe Balogna's in Lexington is a central Ky tradition. Mellow Mushroom has my favorite Calzones.

The pizza choices in Atlanta are ok. Mellow Mushroom and Fellini's are probably the best of the choices

I'm good with Big Ed's in Oak Ridge.

A good friend of mine owns the Mellow Mushroom here in Chattanooga and I only go there for $1 beers. Their pizza is average. If you're in Chattanooga and want good pizza, go to Lupi's.

Chicago standards are Geno's, Giordano's, and Pizzeria Uno. Add to that Ranalli's, Rosatti's and Lou Malnati's (my favorite). Basically, they have good pizza everywhere (like BBQ in the South).

Add in a nice Italian Beef sandwich loaded with cheese and marinara (plus giardinera - a hot pepper relish) - damn, that's good eats that you can't find in the South.

Amazingly, there's a mobster themed place in the apartments behind the UT Law School that serves good Italian beef sandwiches and Chicago style dogs.

Giordano's in Chicago was fantastic. Never been to NY though, so I can't say anything to the pizza there... Also had very limited time in the south so can't speak to the BBQ. West coast does Mexican food better than just about anybody, so that's what I know.

DaVinci's is tops in Nashville. It's so far and away better than anything else we have that it's almost unfair to compare other places to it. Second place IMO would be Nashville Pizza Co., which interestingly has two locations in Williamson Co. but none in Davidson. After that I'd start throwing in places like Pie In The Sky, Mellow Mushroom, Carrabba's, Michaelangelo's, etc.

BTW, I lost all interest in Pizzeria Uno when they opened one in the Nashville Airport.

Big Ed's is a good choice. For Chicago style pizza in Knoxville, I have always been a fan of Stefano's.

DaVinci's is good. I think Obie's was the best in Nashville under the previous ownership, when it was located on Elliston. I have only had it once since it moved to West End, and it was different and not so good.
I can remember going to Obie's on Elliston back in the days of the flying tomato and getting the cookie sheet pizza. Usually, I was headed to or leaving a show and for some reason I cannot remember how it tasted??? :eek:lol: Back in the 80s I would have said Ciraco's was the best pizza in Nashville. It was located where Mellow Mushroom now sits on 21st.

I don't know if you have been there lately, but the past couple of times I have been there it seems to be going down hill. The best Pizza in Knoxville is Elidios. It is on the corner of Central Avenue and Callahan. As for the best Pizza I have ever had, it has to be Guiseppi's (sp?) in Hilton Head.

Just went to Big Ed's this past Friday and I would have to say it was the best I have ever had there (I have been going there for over 20 years). I would have to say there was about a 2 year slump after Big Ed passed away but they are on top again for sure. Outside of ET I like Memphis Pizza Kitchen .....Fetta and Pepperoni FTW!

It has been about a year and a half since I have been there, so I may have to take the girlfriend and go try it again.

Did anyone mention Antonio's on the Strip yet?

I would stay in that place for hours - not sure if it was the all you could eat buffet or his 3 hot daughters/waitresses :)

That place closing was a shame.
