In a spinoff from the other thread, what are the best offenses and defenses we've seen at the college level?

Try to keep it to more recent teams. Don't really know if it's fair to include teams like the 1939 Vols or 1961 Tide. College football is so different and it's pretty obvious that those teams couldn't play again and have similar results.

I'll start it off by continuing my praise of the 2001 Canes and say I think the 2001 Canes had the best defense ever... Even better than some of the Alabama teams...

In no order, but some of the better college offenses have been

'08 Oklahoma
'05 Texas
'05 USC
'03 Oklahoma(until the postseason)

These are some I can remember off the top of my head that are recent. I'm sure you can throw a couple of Florida teams into that category as well. These teams weren't all loaded with talent, but dominated the defenses they faced.

95 Cornhuskers. Averaged 50+ pts per game, played 4 top ten teams and beat each one by an average of 23 pts. That team was flat out nasty!!

I wish I would have been old enough to have enjoyed and understand just how great they were.

The 1991 Bama defense was the best I've ever seen, and by a wide margin.
1992?

That defense gave up less points a game than any team I can think of from recent memory. However, I'm sure the Canes easily beat that if they needed their defense later in some games, as opposed to the games being way out of hand early.

I don't remember watching any of Bama in 1992, so I really don't have anything to judge them on other than points per game.

Yes, sorry, I meant 92'

The 92' Bama D was just plain dominant, the DE's Curry and Copeland were unblockable all year, you couldn't run on them and seldom did an opposing QB ever have time to throw it, that D won Bama that 92' National title. Miami's 01' D was great but Bama's 92 was better IMO, I hate Bama more than anybody so I would love to say the Canes but I'd just be lying to myself.

From everything I've heard, I'd agree. I was just never able to watch them, seeing as I was one. I don't know anything about them other than the fact that they destroyed Miami in the title game.

Johnny Majors thought so highly of that 92' Bama D that he saw fit to punt on 3rd down on our 1st offensive series, made me wanna puke.
