Been wishing we had a thread that consolidated pictures of The Rock over the years. There has been some amazing art by a lot of talented people (and a few not so talented) and figured this would be a good way to pass the time as we wait for "the last recruiting weekend" version to show up.

There's the good old days when we started a fund for rock painting. Ertel, VolsFan18, and myself, and several others, froze our arses off on several winter nights.

We might not have been the best painters but my favorite was the door to Neyland with JRM's name right at the top. It was so cold that night that the paint wouldn't dry but instead just run down. My Northface jacket still has little orange paint flecks all over it.

Good times. Good memories.

Edited: Holy Shat! That was 4 years ago! I just looked at the date. Thanks OP, your thread made me look this up and realize how fast time flies.

Jason Croom's mom (MzTerry) said how much it meant to all of them to see that they had support from the local fanbase and Alden Hill and Justin Meredith both posted pics on their facebooks of this rock because they were excited to be named on it.

That's enough for me.

well it most certainly does have an impact. For anyone who knows the history behind the rock and the time and effort it takes to do each recruits name; it would be crazy for anyone to think anything different.

I myself; thought it was the most thoughtful thing fans could have done.

The moment I realized that no matter how crappy my painting was, it was worth it if it meant something to the recruits.

I'm really glad that some great painters have gotten involved. I'd definitely like to do it again when I'm in Knoxville. Not living there definitely adds a challenge.

I wish I still had the time to get out there and paint, it was a lot of fun and some of my favorite memories as a vol fan

Long time no see, old buddy. We really tried to make a go of it in 2012. I didn't realize until then how much easier ppl will donate money than time.

Hope everything is well with you and your family.

Ertel

You were actually one of the folks I was hoping would post some pics. Remember your posts over the last couple years and figured you'd have some great pics from back then.

I think that I took this pic at the O&W game this year. It's one of my favorites.

How ya doing Ertel? Long time no see. I remember our meetings in the Home Depot parking lot to hand off paint from donors. Seems like yesterday. 4 years ago ... Wow.

Beating hogan was a big moment for him I'd say
He tucked tail and ran off to Hollywood mean while after the loss hogan became tag champ and WWE champ. The result of that match turned hogan back to a good guy.Now he is a bad guy again
