Best freshman pass rusher may not be Myles Garrett

Believe I heard that while he has fewer sacks than Garrett he actually has more total tackles and tackles for loss.

I liked the reports that said when he showed up he was already faster than all the D linemen and started running with the linebackers and some defensive backs. That's the kind of sweat equity you love hearing about.

Some people forget that at the beginning of his junior year, he was more highly regarded as a tight end...athleticism to spare.

Really looking forward to this kid playing with the likes of McKenzie and Tuttle.

This. If Butch can do enough to hold back the masses for the next year or so, this team is going to be stacked from top to bottom with talent. Really looking forward to it.

Our defensive line is going to be scary good in a year or so. Just think of all the additions coming in the near future.

I'm not surprised Garrett is such a beast, dude looked like he was NFL ready the day he stepped foot on campus. Derek Barnett was probably the biggest surprise of the year though. He's got All American written all over him. Love his attitude and motor on the field.

Butch doesn't have to worry about being here the next year or two. Unless he manages to lose 2 of the next 3 games, he has no heat on him whatsoever going into 2015. Barring meltdown, he isn't going anywhere until at least 2017.

And with the talent he has coming in, and with the way he has his young talent playing, he won't be going anywhere then, either.

Its been a real surprise at how good Barnett has been this season. If a few more kids step up next season just imagine how good our Dline can be.

I don't think that Garrett has any sacks in SEC games... Isn't Barnett top-10 nationally in TFLs?

Edit: so Garrett has *some* SEC sacks. Credit to someone below for actually looking it up.

having talent really makes a difference next year,s defense should be very very good despite loosing all every thing AJ Johnson and our tackles .With Barnett anchoring the line and JRM leading the lb,s and Cam at cb and Kelly at safty with the newcomers and those talented players i didnt mention coming back .It will no longer be a talented but inexperienced group of defenders shur they will be a few who have no collage experience but very talented players with very talented and experience players the defence will be able to pass defend and stop the run and pressure the qb.the next two or three years and on will be something at TENNESSEE that you younger fans may never have saw at UT.GO VOLS.

I read somewhere that most of Garret's sacks have been against OOC opponents where as most of Derek's have been against SEC teams.

Then by all means, lets get them some experience.
I think my sister did this one:

Why did he want to go to Vandy anyway? Thanks James Franklin for leaving when you did!

Garrett has 3 sacks vs. SEC schools - one each vs South Carolina, Miss. St. and Ole Miss. His remaining 8 have been against Louisiana Monroe, Rice, and Lamar (that's not even a real school!).

All 7 of Barnett's have been against South Carolina, Florida, and Ole Miss.

He also has 1.5 more tackles for a loss, and 7 more total tackles.

You're thinking of Sawyers. Barnett has been quoted as saying that he has wanted to come here since his first visit as a freshman.
