Berry wants Chavis to stay.

As mentioned somewhere else on this board by a poster far smarter than me, Monte has maxed out his NFL retirement level. He really has nothing to lose financially by choosing to come coach with his son.

Heck, if he does come to coach with his son I may regain some of my faith in the human race. To do something altruistic and not wholly money-motivated at this level would be an astonishing thing in the current athletic landscape.

Monte has been hinting that he wants to coach with his son I think he comes. Question is for how long with both Monte and Kiffin stay?

This is why Orgeron comes as the D line coach and takes over at defensive coordinator in a couple of years.

As great as Berry is, I'm a little weary of players thinking they have some power over the direction of the program. We need to get the Indians back on the reservation and let the chiefs run the show again. (Is that politically incorrect or what?)

How could you possibly glean that EB thinks he had any power over the program based on that statement?

Players should be seen, on the field, not heard. If heard, they should mouth the party line, whether they believe it or not. Part of team discipline. Shut up and play.

I like this concept. If you've got a concern deal with it inside the family, not where everyone and their brother can analyze your every word.

See which programs have their players yapping about everything to the press, versus those whose players give minimal, measured responses. The former are nearly always undisciplined teams.

And the teams in turmoil give the best opportunities for stupid quotes. It's the chicken and the egg. Winning teams don't give reporters as much ammo. I'd say the Vols have done pretty well given the situation.

I want Eric Berry to stay for his senior season too. Unfortunately, neither are likely to happen.

You know, I watched the Michigan situation unfold last year, and don't recall a lot of discussion by the players at all. All I saw was they went out on the field and made their statement against Florida. That kind of communication I can understand and appreciate.

i just don't see the logic behind an experienced nfl coach leaving the big leagues to coach on the college level, unless he just wants to help out his son. i could be wrong, but i just dont see the sense in it

Most fathers I know will do anything for their sons. 20 something years in the NFL is a long time. Who is to say he didn't sweeten the pot for his son's salary negotiations. He doesn't need the money. Just a thought.

I see your point here. However, he's 68 and has done just about everything a DC can do in the NFL with no HC future.

He can do nothing to further his career, so maybe he will look at it as a way to help out his sons.

I think you have hit on the reason Monte Kiffin will be here with his son to coach the defense. EB should realize being coached by one of the all time best defensive coaches in the history of the NFL could only help his NFL career, but I do understand his loyalty to his coach.

They were still a pretty good team with senior leadership. Our team had a similar situation with people calling for Fulmer's head last year after the Bama and Florida losses. They went out and came an interception away from winning the SEC. This year, the wheels came off at both Michigan and Tennessee, with the difference being we had the added distraction of actually losing the coach in our horrible year. I think we have acted better as a team than Michigan.

I agree some players have went overboard with there remarks on the situation but in no way can I see anything wrong with what EB is saying. He just stated that the Defense has been good and he hopes the new coach considers keeping Chavis around. He wasn't crying or anything just stating his hopes that they would consider it. I think it is time to start fresh but without a DC better than Chavis I see no reason to go with a lesser man just for the sake of cleaning house. I hope Monte comes and this is a moot point but I would rather keep Chavis and retain a good defense than just flop roles and have a power house O and a pansy D.
