Not that I think he played bad against USM, but I hope Berry is more comfortable at safety by this Saturday. Florida will use a lot of play action, so he will have to make good decisions for us to have a chance.

Apparently it was said post-game that Berry will be moving back to CB with the Gaines injury, and Parrish will be getting the start at SS again. We'll see..

I missed that. Not sure how I feel about it. I thought Berry was one of the better fundamental tacklers. He hasn't laid any big hits, but he wraps up. Also his speed could allow him to play "centerfield" like Deon Grant used to. I think he is going to be in a really tough spot making his first start at corner against Fla, which means Chavis will probably not blitz so he can keep the safety over him. Our coaching staff will have to do an amazing job to put together a successful plan for this week. I hope we do something creative and different(yea right I know), cause Fla. eats cover 2 for breakfast.

Just a football X's and O's question, but what are the key differences in coverage/run support between safeties and CB's? Which position utilizes Berry's full potential better?

Safety, because he has to come up for run support and ofcourse he is the last line of defense so he also has a better opportunity to go up and get that ball if it is thrown deep or over the middle

Parrish was in a lot in the 2nd half, which makes me think that Berry was playing CB. The broadcast was sufficiently crappy that I had a hard time making out numbers unless they were making the play.
I was watching Berry alot and he was in at CB some in the 2nd half after Gaines went out with Parrish at safety. Berry had a good game but that touchdown was either him or whoever was playing at CB at that times fault. They both were looking at each other as he ran by which means neither knew who was suppose to be covering that guy.

The radio broadcast sounded like Johnson got burned bad for that TD. He was playing CB.

Of course its the safety responsibility usually not to let anyone get behind him.

Berry spent a lot of time at CB in the 2nd half with the injury and because we used 6 DBs a lot more. Parrish also played and looked pretty good.

The only reason the coaches have given for playing berry at Safety is because that was his position in high school.

No doubt it was Johnson's fault he was man to man and as the replay showed he got caught sitting on a short route and the WR ran right by him. Berry came over from his centerfield coverage but wasn't able to run him down.

Yep, that's what I saw.

I had the same problem. I was in a bar and in addition to the crappy coverage I had to look through the reflection of a giant neon Newcastle sign, and some girl jumping up and down rooting for Notre Dame, well after the outcome of their game was decided.

In any case, the last thing I want to hear in Florida week is that we are reorganizing our secondary. The only reason I think we can win is that nobody thinks that we can win. The running game will never be more important than this week. We have to protect our defense.

The TD was over Johnson with Berry as the Safety.

The TD was a bust. He did burn Johnson, but only because Marsalous thought Berry was helping over the top.

And Berry played every snap at CB once Gaines went down.

McKenzie will get more playing time when our safeties are relied more on stopping the run and less on coverage. He can't cover yet.

Neither could Morley, but he played...I think the coaches are hurting the defense keeping Parrish in...McKenzie wont learn anything about covering on kick coverage...

He came back and broke up 3 passes. He played very well after that bomb. The pass that scored was a communication breakdown. He thought he had help over top but Berry was manned up on the WR in the slot.
