Just some questions I have. Rivals says he is 6'5" 230... is he really that lite? Itsays he can squat 500 lbs. If so I don't really see how you can squat 500, but way only 230. If he was 230 then, has he gotten his weight up?

Secondly, is he ready to come in and contribute right away? I've heard guys talk about coming in on 3rd downs to rush. Also says he runs a 4.5. That's amazingly fast for defensive end. How accurate is that?

I could squat more than twice my body weight back in high school. It's not uncommon. Of course, I weighed a lot less than 230, so my max wasn't as impressive as 500.

It is pretty accurate. He needs to gain weight, which he will have it up a little by the time he gets here. He played basketball so he couldn't get right into it. He will gain some more when he works with the team. I'd say he will be around 245-250 by the time the season starts. He is that fast and I think he will be in the 5 deep at DE(X Man, Reynolds, Ayers, Brown, Martin; Mathis may play some as well).

Dang I am ready for some football!!!! Ready to see Donald light up somebody on special teams and see if Martin can push the vets at DE. What about Berry, Moore, and Jones returning kicks? Watch out!

Martin is one of the best athletes UT recruited last year. Rivals lists him as the 2nd best player UT recruited, regardless of what his squat is, its irrelevant. He's an impact player just like Berry and Donald.

He weights 230, and as HV said, he'll need to bulk up.

His 500 squat is higher than the other top rated DEs (the others are 415-460) but his bench is lower than the other high ranking DEs. Martin benches 305, which is actually a little low in comparison. Sounds like he's incredibly strong in the lower body and needs to work on the upper half.

He'll play, no worries about that.

You really think he'll play. I'm not disagreeing...it just seems that the biggest issue with the transition from highschool to major college football is the physical strength of the player and this is most obvious on the O-line/D-line. Seems like he has the lower body but not the upper body. Then again maybe his upper body will catch up this summer. I hope he's as good an athelete as people make him out to be

He'll probable be in the 5 man rotation between X-man, Reynolds, R. Ayers, Dan Williams, and Ben Martin..

But if the coaches tell him that he's the 5th man then he'll prolly redshirt.. He wont wanna be 3rd string.

Tennessee does not redshirt 5 star players. His athleticism will make up for his upper body strength. He had over 100 tackles as a DE as a senior that tells you how dominant he is. On 3rd downs he will be a help this season.
