Before Kiffin there was Spurrier

How about this from Spurrier a few years back:

**When talking about recruiting at South Carolina, Spurrier mentioned that he signed a player from the state of Alabama, offering a comparison to his recruiting when at Florida, said; "In 12 years at Florida, I don't think we ever signed a kid from the state of Alabama"; But then he immediately added the punch: "Of course, we found out later that the scholarships they were giving out at Alabama were worth a whole lot more than ours." (in reference to the University of Alabama recruiting violations in the early 2000s) **

He didn't say the word "cheat" , but about the same.

Spurrier was witty and clever. Kiffin just flat out made a claim that was factually wrong.

But most important, Spurrier was a proven commodity when he started spouting off and continued to have success, which gave him the credibility one has to have to put yourself out there like that. Kiffin doesn't have the resume to do what he did and get away with it.

Spurrier was factually wrong when he said Kiffin called a recruit before he took the test. Kiffin didn't sh t his pants and go running to his AD like a girl.. :cray:

That is because Spurrier isn't relevant in the SEC anymore. Regardless of what happened with UT last year, USC is the fourth best program in the east -- at best.

Also, I think Kiffen knows how to take a joke. He just needs to learn how to tell one.

So if you are not relevant you can spout off whatever you want?? Good to know Kiffin got instant relevance for just showing up, while Spurrier who has a nc, sec titles is no longer relevant because he coaches at SC.

What I was trying to say was that Spurrier was not relevant to Kiffin -- no future threat. Kiffen is relevant to Meyer -- future threat.
