Be Realistic, CBJ isn't going anywhere yet, Staff Changes Though...

I want guys who can develop talent...

This ^. IMO, is area where CBJ and his GSIA have failed. Along with the inability to effectively maximize the talents and strengths. A programs ability to teach a develop are prime factors in recruiting. My perception of Jones is that he seems more caught up in force fitting his scheme on players rather than adapting the scheme to talents.

You are absolutely delusional!

The delusional ones are the ones suggesting the 2016 team was ever more than an 8-4 team (as I posted prior to season start). I assumed FL and GA were losses but never imagined we would embarrass the program and ourselves losing to USCe and Vandy.

But keep wearing the VOL-colored glasses for as long as you want. I love telling folks like you "I told you so".

My two cents... a lot has been said in this thread, and I agree with some and disagree with some. I agree that for a variety of reasons, Butch will not be fired or nudged out of the HC spot. He has put out the dumpster fire that raged for several years, attendance has been up, he has his players behaving themselves off the field very well overall, and their academic performance has improved. He represents his team and school with class, IMO... though some might b***h about his use of an occasional f-word. He has put enormous effort into the last four years. Couple all that with the AD situation, and you have to think the UT Admin is very unlikely to make a HC change.

I think it is also unlikely the coordinators will be sent packing. The offense is stale at times, very effective at others... scoring and yards are high overall. That said, the OL has been a weakness. S&C? Injuries/continual shuffling? Passive rather than aggressive techniques? Lack of schemes that use extra power up the hole? Near misses in recruiting? IDK the relative weight to assign to those and other factors... but I certainly could see Mahoney being gone and some changes to schemes.

On defense, I agree with the sentiment that Shoop has a good body of work, and this year looks like an aberration. He came in with (IMO) a charge to try to make it work with existing staff so as to not have a hiccup in what was to be a good year. The injuries don't account for it all, but holy cow they have been major. Nobody but the elephants have the depth to just "next man up." With our DL and MLB depth issues (not to mention Captain Cam) is it any wonder that our last few opponents have powered up the middle? Our DBs have had to play the run, which has worsened the (major) issues with pass coverage. (Freakin turn around and look for the ball!!!) Myself, I see one change (Martinez) for sure, and other position coach changes possible.

One last comment in this ramble... keep in mind that good ongoing recruiting is based on ~3-year relationships between coaches and prospects. Shuffling recruiters is one of the major reasons many/most teams miss a beat or two in transitions.

According to a report from Travis Haney of 247Sports, all three are expected to be back in 2017. Haney also reported that the strength and conditioning staff will be “overhauled” in the coming months. There was also a mention that Debord is at least considering retirement. The 60-year old offensive coordinator has been the Volunteers offensive coordinator for the last two seasons.

If true this won't sit well with a lot of the fanbase. It's going to be a turbulent offseason.

I'm not against Debord and Shoop coming back but Mahoney and Martinez have to go imo. Hopefully the S&C department gets a complete overhaul too.

I can't see any legit coordinator coming here under the circumstances. Shoop has a great track record. Debord's O was wretched early, which I think contributed to defensive injuries. It got cranking later. I think a new Oline coach makes a difference. Still not sold on Azzani.

Defense is a hot mess. This staff fielded decent defenses under Jancek. Sure, injuries, but I'm still scratching my head at how they can't get lined up, are out of position, and seem frazzled. Martinez gone.

Really? Our WR's are much much better.

You were and are wrong. This team as far as talent and experience is concerned was better than UF and UGA by a significant amount.... and probably TAM as well.

This is nothing more nor less than a MASSIVE underperformance of talent by Butch Jones.

That is not true that most want him fired. The vocal minority want him fired but hey they always want every coach fired,

In all fairness, we are a miracle Hail Mary and App. St. having a decent kicker away from being 6-6. We've digressed with a stacked team. Whom you want to place the blame is up to you, but as the saying goes....Starts At The Top.

you do realize the problem with 'bringing new coordinators in' don't you? NO DECENT coach will come and work for a lame duck coach! new coordinators require multi-year deals. replacing all those people means we're tying ourselves that much tighter to butch. we're in the same place we were in after dooley's 2nd year. hopefully we learned. butch has to go. he's the problem.
