Battle at Bristol Rings

I don't see the issue with the rings. Both sides got rings. The rings are obviously a keepsake from the game. Something that will last the rest of their lives. I think too many people are associating the idea of a ring with a championship ring.

I think the better question is, what else should you give the players as a keepsake for the game? A silver coin? A paper weight? A framed picture? A plaque (which is kind of close to a trophy which is worse than a ring) though that's kind of big? Maybe a shot glass or coffee mug? How about a key chain? Tie clip?

Ultimately, a commemorative ring makes a lot of sense. They are small, durable, nice, etc. Any better ideas? Qualification/requirements: Small, nice, durable. The only other thing I can thing of off the top of my head is some type of commemorative coin, which is kind of lame.

That's what I didn't know at first. If they say participated and not champions then rings are great.

What about the trophy, the tee-shirts, and the hats? Since when is a team labeled a "champion" for winning one particular game?

Vols live up to hype as Battle at Bristol 'champions' but next step matters most - CBSSports.com

Yes, Tennessee -- masters of not living up to the hype -- had finally overachieved. Their competition Saturday was just as much the flag, the fireworks and the requisite flyover.
But all of that paled in comparison to the primary task of beating a (somewhat) quality opponent. The No. 17 Vols overwhelmed Virginia Tech 45-24 in an awesome setting and all that but ... champions? In Week 2?
"A little over the top...," Tennessee coach Butch Jones said of the postgame setting. "But I want them to enjoy it and then we'll go back tomorrow ... We've got some work to do."
These Vols still face the long-term task of earning some swag that actually means something three months from now, say, at in SEC Championship Game.
