I came away more grateful that we have Neyland Stadium.

Neyland is just a more pleasant logistical experience than Tiger Stadium. Also, the pregame program was.... very weak. I was expecting a little more pomp. Pittsburgh had a better pregame program than LSU.

This is so true. I felt like pre-game didn’t have as much “umph” to it as other places like SCar and others we’ve visited.

I’m really glad to hear all these accounts from the trip, and also to hear how superior neyland is to most places (all imo). I aaa curious to hear how the tigers took their butt whipping, it sounds like they were at least halfway decent.

It was an absolutely beautiful campus, maybe the nicest I’ve ever seen. It’s up there with UGA in beauty but very different in their aesthetics. But my gosh the area right around campus is the ghetto. It makes the Fort look like a gated community. I insisted my maps app had me going to the wrong place once I got off I-10.
You think UGA is a pretty campus?

I think my all time favorite “what’s a volunteer anyway” response came when an A&M student asked that question in 2016. The Vol who responded said “the reason you don’t go to Mexico A&M”

Wonderful! Thanks. If that had been me I might have thought of that come back about 30 minutes later.

Definitely very different, not a traditional southern campus.

I agree with this as well.

It was funny, I asked one of the groups tailgating which side was the most photogenic side of the stadium for us to take a picture in front of and they pointed at where we were. I was honestly shocked given the awesome shots you can get in front of Neyland.

Well to their defense it was a 11 am start and they have been spoiled with afternoon and night starts. But I agree, Tennessee did a great job of taking their crowd out of the game. On TV the only time the crowd seemed to get amped up was at 20-7 and they had the ball. And maybe the very beginning. GBO

The fans were mostly good to us and we had a great time. Here's some of the memorable events.

The night before the game we were at a bar in downtown BR that had an outdoor concert going on. There were probably 200 people there, 70-80% of the crowd clad in orange. Every now and then LSU fans would chant "LSU-LSU-LSU", then it would be drowned out by "it's great to be a TN Vol".

As soon as we sat down in our seats in at the game an LSU fan turned around making small talk about the game. At some point I said "I think it's going to be a close one, and could go either way". "He replied...it's not going to be close, we're going to kick your ass!" He never returned after halftime.

After the game, we were walking back to back to our cars. A drunk college kid comes stumbling out of his apartment onto his 4th floor balcony and yells to the top of his lungs "y'all MF'ers look like a bunch of f'ing traffic cones. A big ole 6-2 TN boy in front of us threw his hands up and yelled "bring your ass on down here if you want some". He stayed on his balcony continuing to talk trash didn't come down.

Got called tiger bait multiple times.

We owned their stadium by the 4th quarter. Walking out and down the concourses at the end was nothing but all orange chanting very loudly "it's great to be a TN Vol". It was like you were leaving Neyland.
