BasketVols in the NBA (Pros)

We all know that DK is very capable of putting up big numbers, saw that early in the year. That’s what scares some of his teammates and management they don’t like it when the rookie steals their thunder and gets all the praise. They feel threatened by his ability and being overshadowed.I hope he has another chance to get out of LA soon.Just my opinion.

Knecht with a DNP in a close playoff game. Kinda strange how at the beginning of the year LeBron was praising him and saying 17 teams ahead of Lakers screwed up by not drafting him. Now this.

It’s not strange. You can count the number of rookies that have ever got meaningful playoff minutes on a 3 seed or better on one hand.

Here's the athletic rundown on Keon and Springer as free agents. Both listed in the "partial guarantee/in season pickup" category

29. Keon Johnson, Nets (NGTO)

Here’s an interesting one: The Nets have a $2.35 million team option on Johnson, but only $271,614 of it is guaranteed. (In my next life, I want to be a fly on the wall watching the Nets and Johnson’s agent arrive at the $271,614 figure.) In reality, it probably doesn’t matter, as the Nets’ best move is to decline the option for the extra cap space it brings, and then — if they’re interested — bring Johnson back on a minimum deal once they’re done free-agent shopping. The 6-foot-5 guard needs to shoot more consistently (31.4 percent from 3, 46.8 percent on 2s) and read the game better to make a positive offensive impact, but he’s a plus athlete who showed clear improvement in Brooklyn in 2024-25.

34. Jaden Springer, Jazz (NG)

Springer is only 22 and has shown real promise as a defender, but his 23.8 percent career mark on 3s is a glaring problem. He has a non-guaranteed deal for $2.35 million, which becomes partially guaranteed on July 25, but that should give Utah plenty of time to decide whether it can use his contract in another trade. If not, he may need to work his way back in through the G League, as the Jazz roster for 2025-26 looks awfully crowded.

NBA Summer League action kicking off tonight, Vols in action:

Dalton Knecht

vs. Warriors (California Classic) – 6:30 p.m. ET on ESPN/ESPN+

Jahmai Mashack

vs. Thunder (Utah) – 7 p.m. ET on ESPNU/ESPN+

Jaden Springer

vs. 76ers (Utah) – 9 p.m. ET on ESPN/ESPN+

DK was the worst Laker on the floor in the 1st half of summer league play tonight. Shot off and got blown by 2x off dribble and fouled and got beat bad on a back door.

Mashack didn’t manage to get in the game for the griz either and Springer had a pretty forgettable night for the Jazz. Rough run for the former vols tonight

Mashack didn’t play bc the trade that will bring him to Memphis has not been officially completed. He was on the bench in sweats

I don’t think Memphis played any of their draft picks including their lottery pick. Probably letting them get adjusted and they will play once they leave salt lake city

We played Javon Small, our other second round pick, extensively. Coward didn’t play bc he’s coming off injury and they’re being cautious, Mashack didn’t play bc he’s not officially a Grizzly until the trade is completed

Watching DK again vs Miami. Again was the worst Laker on the court. He keeps this up and he may find himself a spot on a G-league roster. Kinda sad as he is playing with zero confidence.

Looking back, I think the Lakers backing out of the Charlotte trade may have actually been a poor decision. Knecht needed playing time and to get out of LA which has been a bad situation for him. LA needed some post play to not get bounced in the playoffs. Should have just accepted the trade.

I hope he gets traded but honestly how he has looked the past 2 days I doubt anyone would want him. Currently is 0-9 from 3-pt line over last 6+ quarters in summer league.

Wonder if he is intentionally trying to tank his value at this point to get moved or cut.
