I love DK, but man he looks lost out there on defense. Doesn’t help that half the second team look just as bad.
I've wondered the same. I hope it is just a confidence thing which could get fixed, and not a basketball IQ thing.I hate to disparage a UT player but I’m worried he just isn’t smart enough to play pro ball. He is like a WR that can’t learn the playbook.
It’s not an ability thing. He literally seems lost out there on both ends of the floor.
He finally reached a level where he couldn't just out-athlete everyone. Got paid for his efforts, though. Hopefully he's been smart with his money.I hate to disparage a UT player but I’m worried he just isn’t smart enough to play pro ball. He is like a WR that can’t learn the playbook.

He only played a bit of G League in December so far, but he's going back to G League again now, in time for the All Star break. Personally I want him there at least for now, since he's not getting playing time otherwise. Playing time is the most essential thing for him right now. This is probably right, but I think the Lakers have also done a pretty terrible job handling him. The failed trade seemed to shatter his confidence, which is partly on him for being that soft. At the same time, it’s very clear they don’t see a role for him on the team, so I’m not sure why the refuse to move on from him.
I know his trade value is fairly low, but how valuable of an asset is he for them when he’s mostly rotting in the G-League and only called to play big minutes on load management nights. You would think they would find some type of trade that could work for them that is mutually beneficial for everyone, even if the return is mild.
Lateral move for DK... No minutes in Cleveland either...
Boom. Good for him. I felt horrible for him when He became a Laker, knowing that that that place had become a nepotistic clown show. It was already a clown show, but it is grown steadily worse. Hopefully he'll find his way there and succeed.
I remember when Dale Ellis got buried in a bad situation at Dallas as a young player. Once he got traded to Seattle, he went off the charts. Here's hoping the same for DK
Not liking the loss, just the info and his numbers. As fundamentally strong as he’s been since day 1, and maybe it’s the orange glasses, I can imagine a scenario where he keeps improving and hangs for a while. Looks like he has 5 boards and 4 assists so far tonight. With 3 steals?!?Grant had 20pts 9rebs
Last night in a loss.
His perimeter defense alone makes him a viable option. His lack of post up game may hurt him, but he's just tall enough to carve out a career like Kornet with good defense and strong finishing in an open game. He will need to be a stronger rebounder though.I don’t know if he will get drafted necessarily…
But I’m getting to the point where I wouldn’t be shocked to see Felix play in the NBA. At this point I’d probably say it’s more likely than not.
I’ve been thinking about Nick Claxton as a comp. Similar size with good lateral mobility. His perimeter defense alone makes him a viable option. To be fair that’s only because Stephen Adams got hurt, but you’re totally right. Someone could do a lot worse for a backup center than Okpara. He plays great D and if you give him a good guard he’ll catch your lobs. He could stand to improve his screens though. It’s a great comp. Center is a weird position in the NBA because it is loaded at the top and then it dives in quality hard.
There are a lot of bad centers in the NBA. I’m watching a washed Clint Capela get minutes for the Rockets right now, in fact.
His teammates at UT were too good so he constantly deferred. Now he’s on a team with no help and he has to do moreMashack had 13 points, 3-4 from three, in 21 minutes off the bench, last night. I know the Grizzlies are a dumpster fire and tanking, but Mashack is getting more minutes and scoring more points than I thought he would get in his whole NBA career, in his rookie year. Good for Jahmai. I just looked it up, Mashack has scored more points than Chaz Lanier, so far this year. Of course, the Pistons are loaded and Lanier (3.1 ppg) has only played in 20 games, but Mashack has only played in 18 games, averaging 4.8 ppg.
