BasketVols in the NBA (Pros)

I think it's pretty obvious he doesn't want to be there and JJ probably isn't playing him because of his attitude after the trade failure. DK body language looks like a man who doesn't want to be there IMO.

Of course this is my opinion and I could and probably am totally wrong on this

Disagree. I think that is unfair to DK to blame this all on him and say his attitude is why he isn’t playing. He had two of his highest scoring outputs and best games after the trade deadline when LeBron and Luka were hurt.

DK has basically been benched. Gets very few minutes, sometimes a DNP. Crazy stuff. I don’t buy the no defense angle either. Lakers are continuing to get cooked on defense every night even when he isn’t out there playing, meanwhile their bench has provided basically no scoring.

I watched their game against the Rockets the other night. Knecht’s minutes were bad. Like, as bad as you can imagine. In 4 minutes he gave up like 7 points that you could reasonably argue were 100% on him.

I’m not shocked after that he doesn’t have the trust of the coach as they solidify the playoff lineup (which he was never gonna realistically be part of)

Knecht just provides little to no value to their roster construction. They don’t need another wing scorer. They already have 3x. They especially don’t need another one who can’t defend. They already have 3x*

*LeBron can still defend in spurts. But he is 40. He takes a lot of plays off to conserve energy now

Watched almost every Laker game for years except for the insane memphis and atlanta blackouts. DK had a good start in November December. Then the rookie swoon hit him in January February. Now he's bounced back a bit. His problem is that he isn't an athletic defender @ the 2-guard spot. He gets switch-hunted to death. Makes him kinda unplayable in certain games, particularly when his shot isnt falling..

Lots of people and players get traded and fired and moved around. That's part of life. If he's traded this off-season, he could be traded by that team at a later date too.

Gotta grow up and face the real world. I don't think he has some sort of soft, emotional problems with the business of professional basketball. But, if he does, then he won't last long out here. There's worldwide competition for these roster spots now.

He's shot well at the end of the year despite being given a few minutes at a time in most games. Shooting >40% from 3 since all star break. >42% since start of March from 3.
Crazy how he can stay consistent when he is hardly given any playing time.

Yeah DK had a good year overall and contributed to many of their wins. Had maybe two bad months right before his trade and after it was rescinded. The Luka trade changed his minutes dramatically. Offensively he is very capable. His FG% and 3-pt FG% is exactly the same as Reeves, his 2-pt FG% is quite a bit higher than Luka/Reeves/James and his overall shooting efficiency is 2nd highest on team. They didn’t use as much motion offense as I thought JJ would implement as it was primarily alternating iso-ball. DK sort of became one dimensional but we all know he is a 3 level scorer. He needs to continue to improve his handle, quickness and 1x1 skills but if he got 34-35 minutes per game he is easily a 20+ pt scorer in the league.

Defensively he has a ways to go. He is too upright in stance, forgets concepts and get blown by off dribble. More playing would improve this but he won’t get it at the Lakers. Luka, Reeves and LeBron all need to be surrounded by 3-D players due to their own defensive weaknesses. He is a better defender of small forwards vs 2Gs. I hope DK gets traded in the off-season. But the Lakers may keep him if they go far in the playoffs. He is cheap and fits mold of modern day NBA offenses well.

He averaged 19 minutes per game this year. That's not "hardly any playing time." His minutes and points per game average are almost identical pre trade debacle and post trade debacle

Knecht scored nearly 40% of the Lakers bench points... in THREE minutes.

Edit: lol. He led the bench in scoring and only played 3 min.

Wonder if that earns him a little more run, next game. Probably not, if it's close
Knecht with a DNP in a close playoff game. Kinda strange how at the beginning of the year LeBron was praising him and saying 17 teams ahead of Lakers screwed up by not drafting him. Now this.
