The Vols are close to getting their first commitment for the 2007 class from 6-9, 300-pound forward Brian Williams of Harmony Community Prep in Cincinnati. Williams is originally from the Bronx, N.Y., and visited UT officially for the Alabama football game.

He doesn't even have any stars on Rivals.com. At 300 pounds, can he run up and down with the rest of the Vols?

UT receives first basketball commitment

KNOXVILLE – Tennessee’s basketball team received its first commitment for the 2007 class today from forward/center Brian Williams of Harmony Community Prep in Cincinnati.

Williams’ coach, Mark Metzka, said the 6-foot-9, 300-pound Williams plans to sign next week with the Vols when the November signing period opens. Williams is originally from the Bronx, N.Y., and also considered St. John’s, Pittsburgh, UNLV and New Mexico State.

The Vols will likely sign two players next week and save a third scholarship for the spring period. Wing player Cameron Tatum of Patterson Prep in Lenoir, N.C., is the second player expected to sign with Tennessee. The 6-5 Tatum, originally from Tucker, Ga., wanted to sign with the Vols during the last period, but didn’t qualify academically.

Anybody heard anything about 2 kids out of Chattanooga that Coach Pearl is recruiting? One is a 6'9" big body out of East Ridge and the other is a 6'10" shooter out of Grace Academy.

Carter McMasters, 6'10 out of Grace Academy is a Dirk clone. He is skinny and soft inside, but he is very skilled. He has a great 3-point shot, handles the ball very well, and passes well. He is a good athlete too. When he puts on 30 pounds of muscle he will be quite a player.

Philip Jurric, 6'9 out of East Ridge is the opposite. He is a big banger down low. Great rebounder and defender on the block. Very strong. His outside game is lacking but he is good at what he does inside the paint.

Both are high regarded in recruiting circles.
