I maintain that the RPI is a very poor measure at this point of the season. Check back when you have 4 games left in regular season conference play.
I maintain that you only maintain that because the Gators are ranked surprisingly low.
I might agree that most polls are worthless early in the season but to say it's a poor measure at this point is absurd. We are 75% of the way through the season and RPI will play a huge factor in bubble teams that get in and those that don't.
RPI isn't as relevant at this point since opponents' records aren't finalized.
RPI is a solid indicator at the season's end.
Freak you hit the nail right on the head. The selection committee thinks the RPI is the bible of college basketball. You can throw out the other polls when it comes to selection time.I am not arguing that this poll is somehow an exact indicator of which teams are best but it's going to be used by the selection committee regardless and that is why it's valuable.
Like I mentioned, with 75% of games played the RPI is about 75% accurate of what it will be when the season is finished. I am not arguing that this poll is somehow an exact indicator of which teams are best but it's going to be used by the selection committee regardless and that is why it's valuable.
I agree completely. My point is that the RPI can change by season's end. If our current RPI is our finishing RPI then we are in great shape. If teams like Texas, Memphis, OSU (both of them), etc struggle down the stretch then our RPI drops.
I know what you guys are saying but that's like saying we can't determine who #1 is until after the championship game. You can't but yet we still have polls.

I guess what I am saying is that it's actual accuracy (as with most polls) is irrelevant. What does matter is that this ranking will affect which teams make the tourney and their seeding.
