Basketball/Football

Lots of fairweathers in this thread. It's understandable, though.

True. You can't really blame people for being enthusiastic about basketball, but I don't really get why you have to be one or the other.

I guess it's different for students. I sat through many a-empty games when UT basketball sttttttuuuunnnnk.

I enjoy getting into anything competitive involving UT. Hell, I even watched Abbot's no hitter last night (granted there were no other sports on, except the NBA which I admittedly watched more than the softball game)

Now I'm off to watch AR play their way into the super regionals in baseball.

Yea, I'd watch a UT marbles team if it were ranked and in contention for a title.

But I'll have to admit, that softball crap is hard to stomach. I just check the score and then flip back to what I was watching.

for someone hypercompetitive like myself, they're all life and death (and my wife will vouch for that)

I know what you mean. People think it's bad to sit through a game of mlb baseball. Softball is 100x worse two watch.

I cant watch b-ball unless it's sweet 16 time. Because then, FINALLY, every game counts.

Football is life n death every week.

Hell, that's the one thing I hate most about college football. TN is expected to win EVERY game in the SEC to have a shot while you got teams like USC or ND with easy schedules skating their way to a BCS. And who cares about any bowl game except the National title? I could care less if TN beats Penn St. in the Citrus bowl (my bad, we didn't do that).

Anyway, I'm so pumped about this bb team that I am willing to just fast-forward through football to get to basketball season.

is this happening just b/c people naturally have that "bandwagon" mentality to go with the team that is good?

I'm turned off by the softball players who take a running start when they're batting. It looks pretty silly.

I'd say that's a pretty safe assumption. Plus, football deals with a different set of expectations. Just give it a few years of coming close in basketball though and the basketball fans will be acting like Kentucky fans.

I like both sports, college football is my favorite and always will be, I love what Pearl has done to the hoops program. Pearl and Fulmer are on opposite ends of the spectrum as far as their pesonalities go.

So I just realized I have become a bigger UT basketball fan than UT football fan.

I love the sport of football and college football/NFL over the NBA and collge basketball. However, with the current state of the football program Pearl an co have surpassed Fulmer.

The football program is like watching someone walk a tight tope and just praying they don't fall but fully expected them to fail. I constantly find myself watching the games and waiting for the them to lose in the end. The program has no momentum.

I am shocked when UT loses a basketball game. I fully expect them to win and pull something out of their bag of tricks to win a game in crunch time. It is like being punched in the stomach when they lose. This program is like watching a train that is getting faster and faster just building speed and momentum.

I love football but UT football is just almost boring at times while basketball is the exact opposite.

I agree with most of what you said, although I think I came to that realization before Pearl had even coached a game at UT.

I never played football but did play basketball (and have a bro who's a coach), so I'm naturally more of a basketball fan anyway. It was painful for many years, so maybe I'm making up for lost time by getting so into it now.

Most definitely, just step aside to make sure you're not run over by the bandwagon.

Hopefully the bandwagon for men's bball continues to grow quickly enough to a point where, like the football team, it's too big to be called a bandwagon anymore.

It may get to big to be called a bandwagon, but they will still be easy to spot.

Deep down I will truely be more of a football guy than basketball. I guess my real point was that, like many I am just feeling UT football has become stagenet. I am still excited for the season and college fb in general but things just don't seem like they used to be. I guess just seeing first hand what a coach with a pulse can do for a team and community makes me want more from our fb coach.

What should we look for?

An abundance of smiling faces and loud cheering?
An absence of booing?
Maybe some T-shirts referencing their love for the coach, ala "Pearl Jam" and "Bruce Almighty"?
Some index fingers pointed in the air?

football>basketball, in general.

NFL > NBA

College Football > NFL

College Basketball > every other sport on any level anywhere

NCAA tourney > every other sporting event anywhere

One man's opinion and all that.
