Could Big 12 Men Have Six Top 25 Teams Come Monday?

Outsiders would probably call what happened on Saturday in the Big 12 Conference crazy. If you know the Big 12, you know it was just a normal weekend.

Three higher-ranked teams lost to either lower-ranked or unranked teams on Saturday, including the day’s final game, a 79-66 victory for Oklahoma over No. 11 Iowa State.

The Sooners (12-3, 2-1 in Big 12) beat the Cyclones (13-2, 1-2) behind a balanced offensive attack led by Umoja Gibson, who had 20 points. The Sooners had 71 votes in last week’s AP Top 25 and were three votes behind Illinois.

The Illini were just outside the Top 25, meaning the Sooners were essentially No. 27 in the country. The Illini won both of its matchups this week.

The Sooners went 1-1 for the week, falling to No. 1 Baylor, 84-74, on Tuesday. But, the Sooners boast a resume that now includes three wins over AP Top 15 teams.

I think there needs to be a deep dive into how the Big 12, B1G and SEC have emerged as strong basketball conferences while the ACC is lagging behind all 3 in not only football, but now basketball. The ACC should never be behind any of those conferences in basketball.

Can't argue with you on this. It's like they don't even try anymore. Losing Maryland to the BIG should have put them on notice.

That was a $ deal and Maryland hasn’t really adapted to the Big 10. No matter how much I despise them, Maryland is always an ACC school to me. There’s no excuse for Clemson being the only legit football power.

Is Andy Enfield beginning to follow in Scott Drew's footsteps?

Nevertheless, being one of only two unbeaten teams is certainly a publicity bonanza for the Trojans. It can only help with recruiting. It will only improve the program’s national reputation.

This invites the question: Is USC coach Andy Enfield making the same journey Baylor coach Scott Drew has made?

Let’s offer some brief background here: Drew led Baylor to the Elite Eight in 2010 and 2012, but Baylor missed the NCAA Tournament in 2011 and 2013 and suffered a 3-versus-14 upset to Georgia State in the 2015 NCAA Tournament. Baylor was knocked out in a 5-versus-12 upset in the 2016 NCAA Tournament by Yale. After that 2016 season, Drew was viewed as a coach who could not make the most of his talent.
