Basilio says no way we have 24,000 on waiting list for tix

Enough to repeat it anyway ... He said yesterday, with a straight face no less, that Tennessee has a waiting list of 24,000 for season tickets. Now that's some great comedy. What are they? The Green Bay Packers???? No offense to anyone involved but Tennessee doesn't have a waiting list. Why else would they be selling over 10,000 tickets to two ticket broker houses for the past couple of seasons. Plus this year they were double and triple dipping on their big spenders looking to move tickets as late as a month ago. Hey ... It all sounds good. But think about what we're saying here. A 24,000 ticket waiting list? Did I miss something? Danny White said it was 14,000 last season. It's grown by 10,000? Was the Ohio State loss that impactful? Just a few questions ... Who? what? where? when? and Why? Are the Vols a 3 time defending champion going for a fourpete? Is Nick Saban going to coach here in the next few years? I mean ... I'm sorry ... I realize I'm the only one with the stones to say this but just because Danny White proclaims something doesn't make it true. And don't get me wrong, Danny is a great marketer but he doesn't and won't have a 24,000 waiting list for Tennessee Football at the prices they're charging. Surely Heup doesn't believe that hype ...
I think it’s more like an “interest list”. Not sure why DW is insistent on calling a waiting list.

there is not a school or professional team in the country that doesn’t sell 10 to 15% of its season ticket inventory to one of the major resellers. They have a multi-year agreement, and they pay about a 20% premium over what season ticket holders pay.

They don’t do it to offload inventory, they do it because it represents a significant profit center.

The current “waiting list“ is an interest list with about 20,000 people on it. There are people on it that have interest in multiple areas, including boxes, premium seats, etc. Some of those people are counted twice to get to the “public” number of 24,000.
DP…as usual for the win!

If you (not you literally but in general) aren’t donating money I think you’ll be passed on the waiting list by those who do. I feel like I read this when I also joined a few years ago. I’m at the point now where I think I would enjoy the games more at home than paying a premium to fight traffic and be confined to a 8 inch space on the bleacher.
There's really nothing like being there.

Try and buy season tickets. I'll wait.

It may not be that many, but you aren't getting any today.

Wish we did not use those resale guys. Their existence aggravate a lot of folks. With that backlog, why not sell those in-house like the old days? Even at face plus to protect those that donate. Earn points to impact order on the waitlist.

Any group more hated than those professional scalpers?

Guess my age is showing.

Just a thought here... Is it possible for UTAD to look to 2 separate ticket brokers for guaranteed sales at a premium instead of chancing last minute surplus unsold?
There can be a waiting list and this still the case. My season tix situation is I have 2 in Z15 and asked ticket office if I could add a 3rd with understanding I would be willing to change sections if it made sense. The email response we got told us our donor ranking (which was low end) made the request unlikely and to improve our chances we need to donate more. Ok fair enough.
My issue is we were sold these tix as season tix but here is the rub. Most of tix sold around must be vivid seats, ticketmaster, etc because I am one of the few regular fans at home games. Big games im typically surrounded by mostly visiting fans. It's great being at games but sucks not getting to know people and share experiences with fans.
So yes there could be and is a waiting list, but ut is not making all those potential tix available to buyers. You gotta pay that premium online on an already expensive ticket .

I emailed UT about the seats beside me, because they state that purchasing season tickets for resell is prohibited and they are cracking down. The 2 seats beside mine are listed for resell on ticketmaster every single game this year. Same the last 2 seasons, always Alabama fans/visitors almost every game. They didn’t respond … crickets. Tickets still listed.

Because long-term contracts were signed years ago and the profit to UT on it is larger than the combined donation and ticket cost for the seats we're talking about. It'll be interesting to see what happens when one of those contracts runs out next year.

I attempted to get additional season tickets so I could let some of my friends go to ball games. I was told there were none available; however, I could buy tickets for some games at an increased price. I did that last year, but all the seats are in the higher portion of the upper deck. Those seats are way too high for 70 year old fans to get to those seats. I told them to pop some popcorn and get out the good scotch and enjoy the games on TV.

Thanks, I like facts even when they don’t support my position. Find it surprising they get that level of return from those. I do always hope they get stuck selling for a loss on the low end games. That risk for UT is eliminated and cash in hand before the first kickoff is handy.

Those single-game tickets you were offered are from the usual visitor allotment. The visitor allotment number is bigger for some games than others, but they obviously can't sell those seats as season tickets since they're promised for some games.

Those tickets were in the upper deck behind the South end zone. The Alabama and Florida tickets had already been sold form a set of four seats together. I thought the visitors tickets were in the Southeast part of the upper deck.
