Tony says local media is bias against Kiffin in favor of the SEC... I heard a local sports radio station program say the problem is we "have a coach who does not know the rules" I hate it when our local (Knoxville) stations joins the band wagon and bashes our Coach

Its because CLK is not a fat redneck from TN. Im from TN, born and raised and am not downing my home state but our media hasnt reached the new millennium yet. They cant handle a young guy from Cali running our program.

LK needs to run his program more like UM in one respect. If a journalist bashes UM or the program UF will pull his credentials and refuse to give him access. Hence a very positive local media opinion of the program.

The Knoxville media will quickly learn where their bread is buttered if faced with similar options.

I think once UT starts winning consistently and wins some big games you'll start to see this happen. No body cares what happens to some "journalist" when your team is winning. And CLK needs time to build power in the local networks.

It's understandable since they lost all their inside access/sources and are bitter. They no longer get away with asking stupid questions and getting coach-speak either. Time to actually do some work boys

Ya I love how CLK makes that face everytime Hyams or Chip Caine asks a stupid question about uniforms or play calling. Almost rolls his eyes at them.

Don't think that'll work. Didn't Fulmer ban Hyams and Adams from practices? Didn't work then.

Jimmy "Freakin" Hyams loves to hate on Kiffin. He beat this to death yesterday. I am surprised he didn't bring up Taj Boyd again too.

Well... we don't want to go communist in K-ville, but I agree, you'd think the local media would start jumping on the Lane Train... anyone with objectivity can see he's doing a great job in all the areas that matter.

I don't expect them to ban "journalists" who question the Vols, BUT there are certain "journalists" who make a living simply being contrary. Those people need to go.

As with all Media, they think their above the rest of us. John Adams called for Fulmer's head and now he is bashing Kiffin. He is a talking head like the rest of the 'experts'. I agree with Basilio. The media needs to get on board with this staff!

Jimmy and John did not like the hire period. Now they are venting. They will join the band wagon when he starts to win.

I like what Kiffin has brought to the Team, I like the fact that he is not afraid to speek his mind. I hope our AD has the nerve to back him up. And Jimmy Hyams is an Idiot. imho

Love him or hate him, it can't be argued from a reasonable person that sometimes Lane just needs to keep his mouth shut.

Maybe... but not this time, .....the officials in the SEC are a joke and if the coaches don't start calling them out, they will continue to demonstrate their great skill at achieving less that medoricy... I for one am glad we have a coach who owns a set and is willing to call out the comish for his favoritism as well as the sorry excuse for officiating that we have

I e-mailed Hyams yesterday and told him what I thought of his...........un-hmn.......journalism.

Writing these guys validates their journalism technique.

Any response is a good response. Ex. Dodd on Espn.com - I have never read an articulate well reasoned article from him. All his articles are designed to provoke one fan base or another into responding. He can then go to ESPN and say, "Look they're reading my crap. Look at all the comments." All the comments might be calling him an inbred moran, but lots of people have taken the time to read his diarrhea like musings. And therefore he's earned his pay, people have clicked on his blog seen the ads declaring the average IQ of the same targeted fan base is somewhere south of 80. So now advertisers are happy which in turn makes ESPN happy and they cut another check for this worthless hack's half baked opinion.

Ergo my problem with calling sports writers "journalists." They are just part of the gaggle of folks promoting the entertainment value of athletics. Though they are not "officially" part of the UT public relations department, if they dare criticize it too much, you want to pull their credentials so they learn their lesson.

Not criticizing you at all, Clearwater, and this scenario happens all the time -- just saying that because of it I just cringe when people refer to sportswriters as "journalists" or "reporters."
