Barnett is owning Philly OT Lane Johnson in OTAs.

Would love to see Barnett start to eat up NFL offensive lines in his first year as a rookie.

Lane Johnson is getting used to seeing Derek Barnett throughout these Philadelphia Eagles voluntary OTA practice sessions.

Not only is Johnson lining up against Barnett on nearly every down, he's getting used to turning his head and seeing Barnett approaching the quarterback.

A lot.

"Toward the end of the team portion of practice, rookie first-round pick Derek Barnett really began to shine," wrote CSN Philly's Dave Zangaro. "On consecutive plays, he beat Lane Johnson, who has been playing left tackle.

"When the Eagles drafted Barnett, Joe Douglas raved about the draft pick's "ankle flexion." That was on display Thursday; when Barnett gets so low to the ground without losing speed, it's tough to get hands on him."

How could DB have such great ankle flexion when the S&C was so horrible last year?

Typical. Very first reply is bashing the staff.

Glad to see DB shining. Even though I am a Cowboys fan. Luckily they have maybe the best LT is all of football.

S&C get too much credit for the good players and too much blame for the slackers, which I think you are saying.

Barnett put the work in.

Then there's some guys that just want to party and mess around.

Cowboys fan here too, for nearly 50 years. Gonna be rooting hard for Barnett on Cowboys-Eagles gameday.

It helps to know exactly what you're looking for out of S&C. They don't give you God given talents or technique. But you're body has to have the stamina to go through a grueling season. Like a mechanic does not build the engine but knows how to maintain it.

I just hope DB stays healthy long enough to own the NFL sack record because I know he has it in him to do it.
VFL!

Not surprising. The kid has the motor and determination for this level of football. I think he ends up with double digit sacks as a rookie.

That's exactly what I was saying. Great for DB. I think he'll be a good'n!

May Barnett's pro career be storied, may his personal life be fulfilling and free from tragedy, and may he hold his place in the memories and esteem of Volunteers fans throughout his life. Amen.
