Barnes' Reaction to the Cincy Loss

To me JJJ is closer to Admiral than any other recent player.

If/when he can knock down jumpers his confidence & aggression will allow him to handle the ball better and attack the rim.
The shot isn't there, yet, but the size and athleticism certainly are. Not a bad comparison. JJJ is probably already as good, if not a better rebounder than AS. And truthfully, AS only shot like 30% from 3 as a FR. Barnes needs to get JJJ on the 1000 shots/day regimen that AS was on that drove his shooting percentage thru the roof.

He has that painfully flat shot. I'd rather see him spot up just outside of the paint... just far enough out to still face the basket.

JJJ kind of reminds me of Dale Ellis when Devoe played him inside rather than on the perimeter. Somebody also compared him to Dyron Nix. Maybe even a more physical Fred Jenkins.

Yeah having now seen him live action, to me at least he's more Admiral than Richardson (another CG who actually elevated to become a damn good PG his last year).

If we get JJJ for 4 years and he's the next Admiral I'll freaking take it...much as I love Admiral I think James could be even better for us at least in production. Not sure he'll develop that killer instinct or swag or whatever ya wanna call it...that "it" that Admiral has.

Admiral's freshman year
18.7 MPG, 54% 2P, 30% 3P, 4.0 TRB, 0.9 APG, 0.4 SPG, 7.6 PPG

James so far
30.2 MPG, 42.5% 2P, 29% 3P, 6.3 TRB, 2.1 APG, 0.7 SPG, 7.1 PPG

So he's not as productive as Admiral was (based on minutes played) but he's ahead of Admiral in everything except scoring...which is what we all have noticed. If we can get James closer to the production Admiral had as a junior when he was averaging 28.1 MPG and scoring almost 14 points. Then we'll be in the NCAA tournament as a nasty low seed that could knock off someone higher seed.

JJJ needs to become more selfish with the ball immediately and Turner needs to look for him more instead of getting denied cutting to the basket as often.

CJ Watson was sent to leadership school one off season and that sounds like something that JJJ could benefit from.

He's going to be a great player for us, people's expectations of him being off won't have any impact on that. But with Bowden/Turner both as seniors I just don't think James has accepted that he needs to take over more.

Plus Turner is a 5th year senior. That's a big gap in maturity at that age.

It doesn't appear that Turner/Bowden will be able to carry this team to a great year. They'd both play a better role by pushing little bro to step up.

Absolutely, maybe something like that happens. Sometimes great leadership is knowing when to let someone else take the reigns.
