Banks on ND DC list

Excellent they’d be doing us a favor. Now watch when he leaves, THEN everyone will start pointing at how awful we were defensively.
Our defensive problems are mostly due to our personnel, and our offensive scheme, not bad coaching. Banks actually did pretty well considering those handicaps. The nightmare scenario to me would be Banks leaves and Heupel promotes Willie Martinez.

He's as good as the talent he was given.
Decent chance you are correct, the only thing that causes me to pause a little on this thought is they actually started the season out playing decent defense and digressed as the year went along.

I am not necessarily calling for his head either way, but I can't say with 100% certainty that Banks gets a complete pass because of talent.

Problem is I'm not sure how much better it's gonna be next year. The DL might get a boost but I really don't see any immediate improvement from the secondary.

Our defensive players aren't 99th in the nation. People can blame players, scheme, or whatever else, but when your defense is ranked 99th in the country, most of it is on the DC.

They're probably worse.

Banks is converted RB that outperformed. Who else is there at LB? Outside of Alontae we were paper thin at DB and played real young guys and guys that couldn't crack the lineup for years this season. DL has been banged up and was already thin. Our defensive talent is what transferred away.

We're barely 1.5 deep where most teams are 2-deep and elite teams are 3-deep. It's mindblowing how dense some of you are.

Our defense played almost a hundred snaps a game with no depth. Any defense that plays that many snaps will be in the bottom half of defenses. When you add our depth problems, things get worse. Note how our stats get worse in the fourth quarter against quality teams. But here’s the kicker— we had terrible DB talent bad LBs and an ok line, with no rush. We had a serious talent deficit. There’s not a DC in the country that could put that talent in the top 25 of defenses when we have an offense that forces us to play 100 snaps. You’re just wrong.

Yeah watch if he does leave and we get someone much worse. Then we can hear even more if your and others incessant complaining.
Or he leaves and we get someone much better. I wasn't crazy about the hire to begin with. Someone I know that is somewhat familiar with Banks said to exercise caution.

As I said in an earlier post, he certainly didn't have the best to work with this year. We started off the season much better than I had anticipated But as the year goes on you expect to see guys improve, if proper coaching is applied. We digressed in just about every way as the season went along. I don't know that it's worth firing him yet, but I won't be disappointed if he moves along either. We cant be any worse next year than how we ended this year, that's for certain. It was Sunseri level bad.

If we can learn to get off the field on 3rd downs, it would dramatically change how the defense is viewed. There were too many times where we had teams in 3rd and long and their QB got the 1st down to extend the drive. If they correct that then it’s a pretty solid defense.
