The bandwagon effect is a well documented form of groupthink in behavioral science and has many applications. The general rule is that conduct or beliefs spread among people, as fads and trends clearly do, with "the probability of any individual adopting it increasing with the proportion who have already done so". As more people come to believe in something, others also "hop on the bandwagon" regardless of the underlying evidence. The tendency to follow the actions or beliefs of others can occur because individuals directly prefer to conform, or because individuals derive information from others. Both explanations have been used for evidence of conformity in psychological experiments.

I'd agree that the bandwagoneers left much earlier... the wheels fell off of our bandwagon a couple of years ago.

I wanted to add that Tyler made a mistake (and he knows it) Saturday night when he tweeted that some of our fans are bandwagon fans. What he meant was some of our fans don't handle losing very well. That doesn't make you a bandwagon fan. It makes you a bad loser. A true fan is a fan regardless of whether their team is winning or losing but it doesn't mean they can't be critical (even in an irrational or uninformed way). A bandwagon fan has no real allegiance to any team so when things are not going well they just move on to the next hot team. So Tyler knows he was wrong because our fans have been here through thick and thin and no one can deny that. There at the present just happen to be growing numbers in the ranks of those who are increasingly vocal about their mounting displeasure with the duration of this thin run.

When my older cousin found out I liked Tennessee she said that her and her husband are ND fans now but she was a UT fan when she was in high school.

My cousin attended high school in the nineties. Hmm...

The former vols in the NFL that don't say UT during the introductions. *sarcasm*

Actually I find that well distasteful I think they may qualify as haters on a school that gave them a chance so I may actually put them into a band wagoner
