from an AP article on Candace's AllAmerica selection...

Tennessee sophomore forward Candace Parker missed by one vote Tuesday of being a unanimous selection to The Associated Press women's basketball All-America team.
Parker was a first-team pick on 49 of the 50 ballots from the national media panel that votes in the weekly Top 25. The voting was done before the start of the NCAA women's tournament.

Tommy Deas of the Tuscaloosa (Ala.) News was the lone voter not to select the Tennessee star.
"She is a very good player and was one of several I considered for first team," said Deas, who once worked for the now-defunct Nashville Banner. "I chose by position and although she is very versatile, I couldn't pick her."

if it wasnt so sickening it would be laughable. Let's find some way to blow this guy's email up. And people wonder why the Nashville Banner folded.

He looked by position? She is one of the few players around that is not limited to 1 position but can play any. Seems like someone has a vote but is not very educated on the game.

Mr Deas,

Like everyone else outside of Tuscaloser, I had never heard of you before today. However, thanks to Candice Parker you finally made a name for yourself. You are quite the enlightened person and it must feel good to know that everyone else was wrong but you!

Go Vols!!!!

***We note with encouragement that fellow VN member, Tuskaloosa, has elected not to rise up in support of this Bammer nation media nutjob....

Come on! Why do we take this thing so seriously? The value of Candace Parker is not evaluated by this single vote from Tuscaloosa, AL. It just shows how ignorant this person is by putting his vote among all other votes. I bet he tries so hard to come up with his "validation".

I don't know enough or care enough about basketball to join in the frey. Much less womens basketball. I know Tommy and he is a very smart and thorough football writer. I don't read any of his Basketball stuff. I will ask him his reasoning when I speak with him again, usually 2 or 3 times a month. I do know he will be busy covering our spring training until the April 21st A-Day Game.

This is the reply I got from Deas to my email;

"Yes, being psychic I knew if I didn't vote for Candace Parker I would gain world fame because I had a vision that I would be the only one out of 50 not to vote for her first-team, that the AP would publish that fact and interview me to explain my vote. I also get a lot of stock tips on my crystal ball.
And I also voted for Hornbuckle third-team because I'm biased toward her, since there weren't enough other voters who gave her a nod to get her on the first, second or third teams. And my vote for Pat Summitt as SEC Coach of the Year was an ingenius plot to set up my chance to diss Parker. I even went further by voting UT No. 1 in the softball poll starting in the preseason just to create a diversion. But the plot was really hatched when I wasted my Heisman Trophy vote on Heath Shuler, knowing that would give me street cred one day when a women's basketball player came along at UT that I could leave off the first team.
Have a nice day and thanks for taking time to express your thoughts.
